Do you ever carry a fire extinguisher .....

in the car? Even if it is just a road car?. Have you ever had the need to use it? I was thinking that I should get one just in case I need it or come up to somebody or something that could use it? What do you think?

I always carry a fire extinguisher. I once stopped and put out a fire on another motorist's trailer. The tire was burning. The motorist was a fire fighter. He was a bit embarrassed.

I have one in my 944. Fortunately I have never needed to use it. I have been asked about it by many a passenger. Just thinking about it, I probably should have one in all of our vehicles.

I would if somebody could guarantee that it would not explode in a Texas summer car. Haven't looked into it though.

Have one in most of my cars, wouldn't you know that when I came across a car just starting to burn on the roadside, I was in the tundra W/O an extinguisher. Bummer, had to just watch as the folks lost their van. Now have one in the truck also. Pretty sure even the small ones that I carry would have put it out at first. Cheers Richard

I used to carry a halon unit in my 911. I still have it, but don't have a good place to carry it in the miata. When I worked at an situated place in Florida, I saw several cars burn to the ground. If you get an extinguisher for your car, make sure it's specifically for automotive use.

All my cars have at least one. Even my company car has one although it's useless for anything larger than an ashtray fire. | ||

grew up on a farm, we had them in just about everything and I continue that today. Have saved serveral cars over the years, stopped engine fires before they got out of control. I passed that along to my kids. Son saved his restored 67 VW bug with one two years ago from an engine fire.

We drive 30+ year old cars with high pressure fuel injection systems. All the parts, fittings, hoses and gaskets aren't all necessarily 100% new. That, along with possible random not-too-grounded/shielded wires, makes for a possibly good fire recipe. Now, in my car, for instance, I think I have all those issues handled, but just incase something might go amiss, I carry one just behind the passenger seat.

nope. i tried to put out a fire once..a motor on a hydraulic pump. it was worthless...i bet i could have been just as dangerous to that fire with my pecker and full bladder with some saliva spat on the thing. the fire laughed at me. and i wont pop open a hood of a car with a fire going..i'm not gonna be the guy to let all that oxygen in..let it burn. i want to be alive to drive the next new car.

Two in the 911. I have needed them in the past on other vehicles too. Scary stuff when it happens.
