Anniversary Sail

Sunday was my wifes, and mine, 23 anniversary, Saturday evening we went out on a 1926 82' Schooner called "Curlew". Champaign and snacks, lots of Champaign, saw some blue whales pretty close and of course dolphins. Really a nice sail and a very nice old boat. Nice weather,
It is always docked in the harbor and on Saturday morning at the little car show I see a guy that crews on it sometimes. I have wanted to go for years and finally did it. It was great. Might have to go again before the weather changes.

What a classic beauty. Its a great thing that some of the classic masterpieces from sailings history are being appreciated and restored to their former glory, then made available to the public to experience.
Some of the J boats from the teens and twenties America's Cup racing have also been brought back.
The boat curlew really rings a bell for me. I think she was in the islands for some time in the 70s/80s? Maybe with a celebrity owner? Anyone know of that period of her history?
Beautiful thanks for posting

Cheers Richard

I sailed on the Finisterre for a couple days off St. Croix in the mid 70s, I think it won the New York to Bermuda race a couple times before this guy bought it. He told me the original owner won a few times and they changed the rules so it would cost him to much to work the boat, he sold it and it was a fun island boat.

OK i did find some history about her years in Hawaii that do line up with my recollections, Whew, nice to confirm that I haven't totally lost it.
Also some good pics of various rebuilds thru the years.

Congrats Dean on the anniversary and many happy returns!

Cheers Richard
