As good of a thing as this is I don't really blame the spammers, I blame the idiots out there who fall for their ruses. If nobody responded to it, there'd be no money to be made from it and it'd go away. I'm happy to see them shut down but as long as there are stupid people willing to be suckered, there will be a replacement before too long. It's the same fallacy of the idiotic war on drugs. Go after the dealers, sure - but new dealers just pop up in their place. To really solve the problem, treat the end users and kill the demand.

They create the demand. No demand, no purchase of the products, no money. The thing that keeps spam alive is its low cost of delivery. If even 0.01% of people fall for it and send money in, it's cost-effective.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad these guys are shut down, but you know it's just going to create a vacuum and there will be more spam servers popping up in their place before too long. Nature abhors a vacuum. The problem is stupid people as well as those who prey on them. To really solve the problem we need to get rid of stupid people - educate them. Or just implement Internet-access eugenics policies, I don't care which.

LOL, even if that was unintended it's still funny for the irony. And if it was intended, it was well-played!

Actually my inbox is pretty clean this morning.
We'll see how the day progresses.

We'll see. I have my spam definitions set up pretty well, so there are viagra mails every day that I don't see. They go to the spam box and live for a day and then the email app deletes them.
I saw 2 from the 18th and one from yesterday when I just checked it. |

They'll be back. The FCC claimed it shut down "Rachel from cardholder services" a couple of months ago. We still get the calls. Fewer calls, but they still come.
G-mail does an amazing job keeping spam out of my inbox. There are currently around 1400 messages in the spam box. That represents 30 days worth of spam. During that time I've probably had 2 or 3 spam e-mails get through.

I remember a few years ago this subject came up and a pelican actually defended spammers, said he used to do it and didn't think there was anything wrong with being a spammer.
He got blasted bigtime. |

I tell you what, based on my "Spam" email file, I'd almost think that Fed EX & UPS are about to go outta business because they're always trying to contact me about "my un-deliverable" package(s).

Over the last four years I've seen a tremendous drop in the spam I get. At one time it was probably 60-70% of the mail I got. These days it's about 10%.
I report all spam emails that I receive to SpamCop and SpamHaus. |

I'm sure I get a lot more, but the filters are getting so darn good I hardly notice.

I'm getting positively hammered today, but my spam filter catches most of it. Not much truth to this story, as far as I'm concerned.

Still getting the regular business spam. (Sales, I want to buy XXXXX. Can you ship to YYYY? What Credit cards do you take?)
New one today which "looks" like it is from USPS with an attached ZIP file, which is supposed to be a shipping/tracking sheet. There were enough mispellings, and the e-mail address didn't make sense: USPS@tacoma.com The Zipfile had an executable in it!
