Bell, England has made a mockery of the Olympics by producing this crap. I can't tell you about NBC' s coverage, the original product is so bad. Already turned it off after the Mini and the farmhouse and the rain. Wtf? It is about games and competition, not Hary Potter. No wonder Phelps didn't attend.

Oh trust me.....I get what the olympics are all about......
My whole point is the blatant level of disrespect by the broadcasted and NBC, via their insensitive comments and editing.....

viera said when the kids in the hospital beds came out that ”they don't look that sick”.......
Maybe kids with cancer is funny now and I missed the memo......

Fail. They picked the wrong guy to produce it, and it is a bad joke, especially compared to the Beijing games. Doyle is a great director, but his work is all about intricate narrative, not visual spectacle and that as a vehicle for story telling.

He's no Zhang Yimou...

There is a broader issue with all the "up close and personal" crap. There is plenty of drama in the competition. It does not need to be created through hyped narrative and talking heads. I hate it when sport becomes about personality, especially the person behind the mic.

Have a good evening all, I switched to a Pink Panther re-run. More culturally pleasing, lol.

It was more like almost 2 hours of "here's everything that London is known for" followed by weird comments by Lauer. I especially liked when they showed the giant kid in a hospital bed and Matt commented that "it looks creepy" (his exact words). Very professional NBC. Should have sent Ann Curry on special assignment to cover it instead.

Guys, it about spectacle, theater, Drama, the Big Show. I'm watching now, just got thru the forging of the rings, and haven't heard anything that seemed off to me yet.
Relax and enjoy the show or tune it out easy choice. Even the Queen and her dogs are in on it. :-) Cheesey sure , but fun.

There will be lots for everyone to enjoy throughout the event.

Cheers Richard

Pretty sure the NBC coverage is for the US. other countries will cover it in their own way.

20%: swimming
5%: all the other sports

Enjoy.

So, that makes me and the kids not one of the 'billion' who watched it. Instead tonight celebrated with a little British right-hand style out for some fish and chips dinner. Beautiful summer night.

I'm watching practice from the Hungaroring

The problem (imho) is that it was "small". The video bits were far better than the live ones, in part because the director understands the medium of film but frankly seemed lost in the big space of a stadium show. One of the comments of my fiance was that the show was written and designed to play well in a Broadway theater. But it didn't really translate to the larger scope. If you contrast that to Zhang Yimou - that's a guy who gets how to take a huge space and use it to his advantage and create something that is compelling to the person in the upper deck without needing a jumbotron or some interstitial video bits.

As for NBC - the commentators are the typical clueless morons who have no context and get into trouble when they go off script. The "creepy" comment illustrated that Lauer doesn't really know anything about British aesthetic. Has he ever seen Brazil?

Read some twitter feeds, the actual ceremonies were hours ago, NBC has edited it, cut out some of the best stuff, and they won't shut the hell up, it's not the Macys parade.....
Most of the comments they are making are completely out of line IMO, making fun of countries, not knowing facts, etc......simply embarrassing....and horrible broadcasting...
How come you state "that is all" and then follow up with 9 more post? My point was that I could tell 15 minutes in what we were getting. Not the cinematic spectacle of the 2008 Olympic ceremonies for sure. If NBC was editing the ***** out if it, it was doing me a favor. Maybe be an obscure reference, but the final scenes of "Waiting for Guffman" came to mind when I watched it.

In the whole historical production of London history, they never once mentioned 40 years of producing unreliable automobiles.

Would have made for some great Lucas Electric jokes if the power had gone out during the ceremony!

Twitter has become the media standard of what is happening right freaking now, unfortunately the actual media has opportunities to listen to the world in real time and they do not
I have a twitter account, I almost never use it, I have like 7 followers and only follow some f1 people and Jeremy Clarkson, , and condescending wonka.......my wife tells my what is going on....and not by tweeting or texting out to me lol

"Doyle" may be a great director, but I think that Danny Boyle produced the opening ceremonies for the London Olympics.

And no one has ever heard of Zang Zimmo.
