Drives me nuts, whistlers too. Often it is a tic. I think it could make me kill. I have to get away quick - 5 minutes or less. It is up there with clipping fingernails or constantly sniffing / other audible ticks. I get on my family's ass if anyone even remotely looks like they are starting a tick. I hope my kids will thank me one day. Hummmmmmm.

I have a whistler working for me. He sits in the next office. I can hold out for maybe 60 seconds and then I have to remind him that he's free to continue as long as he shuts his office door. He's usually having an out-of-mind experience when he's whistling, so he just spaces out the whole shut the door thing. LOL

We have a nurse that works in our operating room that constantly does a sing song wordless tune. Sort of a higher pitched hum. When full force, she only interrupts the sound to talk. At first it seems pretty, then you hear it throughout a case competing with Alt Nation on the satellite radio. Many OR people don't like working with her because of this.
Another colleague hums a lot while he works - he wears hearing aids and I think he hums to quell tinnitus (ringing in the ears) or perhaps as a defense against people wanting to talk to him, which is difficult for him to hear.

My 9 yr old daughter is a hummer. When she's not talking, she's humming. She's a happy kid. Always making noise though. If she weren't my child, she would be duct taped from head to toe against the water heater in the basement. Can't fault her though-- she lets me take weird photos of her.

I see a future for her in anesthesia...

Always amazing what turns threads take!

I sat in the waiting room this morning with a fat heavy breather that sounded like he has a can of peas down his windpipe. That's pretty bad too albeit not a tick. A good reminder to stay slim and off the chokes for sure!

Our beautiful 19 month old granddaughter does this and it's music to my ears. Of course she goes home after a while. You know, Twinkle twinkle and I'm a little tea pot, etc.

21 years and counting...

What I do is start innocently humming another tune... works every time until she catches on.

If you really thought I was a girl, would you have phrased your praise:

Yeah, that's different, you worry when she's still doing it at age 19!

I really hope you meant to post that in green because it is disturbing on several fronts.
