John Walkers "pick up"

While at the swap meet in Seattle this weekend I had the opportunity to see Johns "pickup"....WOW is that ever cool! For those who don't know what I'm talking about, John bought an old (40's/50's) compact semi and made a pick up out of it. There's a modern 350 V8 and big disc's up front but still that huge *ss original coffin nose hood treatment and heavy fenders. John is a very creative guy, neat to see... there was some cool 911's as well. You Seattle guys probably see this as part of the general scenery...sort of like Puget sound. Thanks John for putting it on. Cheers

Yep, it's part of the "general scenery" as you said. Amazing scenery, eh! He drives it to work, and parks it outside. People love that truck. The more you look at it, the more there is to see.

I was there the day the truck was towed in on a large flatbed. John sure did a number on it.

Somehow, I missed the swap meet. Bummed.

John fabbed those rear fenders. To match the fronts. I think he made the bed from stainless, but not sure. Seriously, it's the world's coolest pickup truck. Phantom rear gate latches. Modern drive train. Original interior. John knows how to make a cool automobile, and he hit the bullseye with this one.

It's not chopped, but it looks BIG. In person. Has (as you can see) the leg vents. Also has the dash vent, I think. Does the windshield open, John?

It's just COOL. It's cooler than cool.

I love driving down Greenwood past John's shop. Never know what will be lurking in the lot next door. His Caddy is sweet.

There are so many cool details, you just want to stand and stare and take it all in. I noticed that the bed has thin wood (ash?) slats, a very cool vintage look that adds another touch of class. As Supe said, the truck is big in person. When you stand next to it, your brain says "this is a big truck." Also, one can tell at a glance that the bed is long enough and wide enough for two people to have a really cool picnic, and comfortably lay side-by-side, and look up at the stars or whatever. So it serves a practical purpose as well.

To describe John Walker as a "Mechanic" is to describe Jerry Garcia as a "Musician."

John doesn't have blood in his veins. It's motor oil.

When I dropped a 3.0 off (headstuds) for John to repaired, I got dry eyes from not blinking due to all the awesome vehicles and parts in his shop.

The one that most stands out was the flathead 12 cylinder engine. I'd never seen one before and he had TWO.

No kidding. The man's got great taste. In automobiles. In music. In a wide range of things. Salt of the Earth. I'm glad I met John Walker.

Imagine......a 12-cylinder flathead Caddy ragtop. Just imagine.

I'm glad his pickup got it's own thread, and lasted this long. Did I mention, I think it's the COOLEST pickup in the world? If I could design a pickup, it wouldn't be as cool as this one.

Do you guys know he's got a couple of ragtop Caddies in his stable, plus at least one Woodie from the same era? He recently sold a 1953 Buick Skylark, which is arguably one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Here is what that car looks like:

I hope you don't mind me sayin' this, John.

I'm glad that many of you appreciate John's taste and obvious talent. I was just amazed that I hadn't heard of it before. Cheers.
