Car goes off at Pike's Peak

Wow! Driver and co-driver were airlifted out and later released from the hospital with no injuries! Time to buy the cage builder a beer!

The slam into the ravine at the end looked like a killer. Amazing they are alright.

Wow! Surely the cage helped but most of surviving this was luck. Look at their heads (slow-motion) and the likely chance of boulders protrude thru the cage openings.

Duuuuude! That crash could easily have ended much worse. They were very lucky indeed.

Aside from a couple switches, I wonder if there is anything salvageable on that car.

i dont understand why they can't race on a safer track. instead, they have to do it on a road with cliffs and trees.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb This race has been held since 1916 and as noted above, is the only road to the top of the mountain, so no other options.

^^^ And for its sake of history, would still rather see them run on gravel vs. all asphalt. Guess the comparison of time's won't be as fair. Imagine the days when the Unser's and Indy cars were running it, Millen's monsters, Audi works SWB ur-quattro's....

I can see this point. On a fundamental level, it is pretty stupid to so blatantly risk one's health and life on such a relatively meaningless thing. I love watching it but empathize with those charged with "cleaning up" (on every level) after it all goes wrong...but not quite wrong enough to be dead on the spot.

I agree with you doing it all you want. Just don't cry like a little girl when you're all wadded-up in some ED, pay your 6 or 7 digit bill and thank everyone you meet no matter how much it hurts...which presumes you are still capable forming thoughts and words after all that fun!!

I would highly recommend not ever saying the above to me or most of my friends in person... or the crying would be on your end my friend.
