Anyone know of a *Christian* BBS like Pelican?

'Putting on flame suite'

Please, please, please let try not to PARF this thread.

I like to discuss topics with other Christians at times, I used to post on crosswalk... they had a great community (much like here) however they migrated to facebook and a lot of the members (including me) didn't want to go to FB so we dropped out.

I have done some searching and haven't found anything similar to the old crosswalk BBS.

I know many of you and members of several different boards and thought maybe someone could recommend one.

Thanks in advance.

I have posted on the City-data forums, but never in the religious section, so I don't know how they behave. It's here.

vash 08-21-2012 07:37 AM

hey, i wonder if they will have a "Off topic - Politics and NON-religion" forum? (PANRF!) :)

Scott, it's possible that there's a need for a new website. You could start one yourself using the template style they had, or use one to your liking. I imagine the hardest part is figuring out how to keep the spam and viruses out, but some people here probably know how to do that. To register a new website name and keep it hosted on a good reliable server is probably ~ $150 per year?

You can view old websites at the internet wayback machine:

There are a lot of forums on the Net that have a total of 100 posts. Best to hook up with something that has traffic if you want to have a decent discussion.

This is the problem... not hard to find a Christian BBS... but they have like 4 posts on a thread... the crosswalk form had traffic almost equal to here... multiple pages on many threads.

If I were to try to create a form I should have done it when the crosswalk migrated, too late now. Plus i don't have the time to moderate a BBS.

theology discussions?

or items of interest in the world? (social justice, env'l problems like species extinction) or...?

Why don't you just post on PARF? It is a religious topic. I wouldn't think anyone would post anything derogatory - especially given you are an established Pelican.

Have you tried that Scott?

Edit: After some thought I think I can answer my own question...you want more exposure than PARF has - especially as it pertains to your subject matter. OK I get it...please disregard my suggestion then and carry on...

You must certainly be joking. :)

Knowing you I'm sure you meant well, however I am not looking to debate religion but a form where I can ask opinions of persons of my same faith. Mind you they would still be an open internet form so they are like a box of chocolates. ;)

You may have a narrower definition of "my same faith" than I use.

I suspect, if polled, most of the members of this board would check the boxes ranging from: "Christian, Observing" through to Christian, No Denomination" and everything in between.

Whether we wear our religion on our sleeves, I think you could do a lot worse than the Pelican Board.

All the best
Les

Isn't this called "church"?

David McLaughlin 08-21-2012 03:49 PM

I had been on a few more popular forums but have since abandoned them. Far too " holier than thou" and not enough true kindness. I tried to start one but like others you found wasn't so successful.

I am a member of and attend church... but not at my lunch hour at work :).

Way to stay above the fray and not bring the thread into PARF, Stu.

creaturecat 08-22-2012 05:20 AM

PARF.
by definition.
right?
