Waze (iPhone app) does turn-by-turn navigation with real-time traffic information, etc.

TomTom has a great turn by turn voice app for iPhones....
Older iPhone 3GS 32gb here - no contract, factory unlock, jailbroke (have to love cydia), 5.1.1 iOS, handful of sims and $45 a month unlimited data, text and lots of voice time and I am ready to roll. Great phone - but a little slow - however I was able to hack Siri onto it - I love Siri. |

Or Waze-but non of these free apps work unless you have cell service or wifi...Garmin does.

Today's the big day. Anyone buying?
I have (2) 3GS' on my account that are getting upgraded. |
I'll be upgrading this month.
|
I have two 4s that I will be upgrading as soon as able. I wonder when the pre-orders will start?
|
I just switched over to Straight Talk (working fine, including the MMS, although I had to pay five bucks for a jailbreak app called TetherMe to update the settings). I also ordered a replacement battery and screen (mine has a couple of scratches in it) this week. If I get all those on and everything works as it should (I don't foresee any problems) essentially I'll have a brand new 4S on monthly service with unlimited talk/text/data and will be telling ATT to go take a long leap off a short pier. Should know for sure next week (this weekend I'll be sitting down to disassemble the phone and swap out all the pieces). If I can't get everything back together then I'll buy a iphone 5. :) win-win for me.
|
Ive been hanging on to a Palm Pre for a few years now and really need a new phone. I held out for the Pre 2.0 and that died on the vine. Now Ive been waiting for the iphone 5 forever. The 4S was not a good enough upgrade for me.
|
I'll upgrade to the 5 for LTE alone, anything else will be gravy.
However, I'm not in a big rush. We do the hand-down thing here, at this point we have two 4S and two 4, so maybe around Xmas or early next year I'll get a 5 and hand down my 4S to a kid. A new iPad is on the shopping list before a 5. I've been using our original iPad as a replacement for my heavy company laptop, at conferences etc, and it has promise. Most companies won't support a personal laptop but many will support a personal iOS or Android device, at least for MSFT Exchange. Add a Bluetooth keyboard and you're set. |
If anyone is interested, here is the plan I just received from ATT last week for iPhones.
5 iPhones. Unlimited talk and text. We all share 10g of data per month. $ 241.00 / month $48.20 per phone. This utilizes a corporate discount of 24%. |

Looks like I'll be ordering new phones on Friday. Is this some sort of silly "get up at midnight and order" thing, or can I just order at 5:15 when I normally get up?
|
my wife(3gs) will order @ 12:01:)
|
it sux. i wanted there to be some OMG feature so my apple stock goes up. but what a disappointment

Looks like the final versions of the rumors were correct.

So the new iPhone 5 upgrades are:
(1) a four inch screen (done by Android over a year ago); (2) new mapping software with voice directions (done by Android over a year ago); (3) 4G LTE (done by Android around a year ago); (4) a smaller connector (so it does not work with previous docking, charging and other accessories); and (5) a better camera (done by everyone). I think the worst thing for 'the latest and greatest Apple crowd' is that it still looks very similar to the iPhone 4 so people won't feel the need to upgrade as the new phone still looks the same! No new technology or innovation-- Apple is done being the leader and the new team is just trying to keep up. Where are all the new 'WOW' ideas? I guess we will have to wait for the new iPad mini-- which is a 2/3 version of the current iPad with no other changes.... |
