I thought my wife would go to her grave with her crappy Crackberry glued to her hands. Now, she's a white iPhone 5 owner. Within an hour of owning it, she told me that her husband had given her to Apple :)

Had to search all day before I tracked one down. Ended up with a black 64gig, and I think it may have been the last unsold iPhone on a store shelf in the whole city. I think the white one is pretty cool looking "naked", but I prefer to keep my iPhones in cases, and the black ones look way better for that.
I got this pretty cool Carbon Fiber Cygnett case for it, too. (Urbanshield carbon fiber - new iPhone) Real sheet of CF inlaid in a rubberized plastic shell. I'm impressed with it for $30, when I went looking for a similar case for my iP4 I would've had to pay like $80 for something similar. |

Damn that's fast!

too fast almost... LTE owners are going to go over their Gb data limits in no time now.

I'm behind the times. I upgraded from a 3Gs to a 4Gs today and am totally pleased. Total cost $88.xx

So far I'm impressed. The maps app actually has one touch that I prefer - with traffic it doesn't show everything either green, yellow or red like google maps. Instead it shows the slow sections as either think or thick red dotted lines - otherwise no color. I'm finding that easier to read. Turn by turn was flawless today. Google maps on my Galaxy Nexus could be a bit wonky wrt the UI especially number of taps to get directions from a search. Siri is proving to be a little more useful than my first go-round. It actually is quite good at sending texts, taking notes and making appointments. It also will now read my calendar schedule including attendees and locations. The Google Now is not ready for prime time, but I have not doubt they'll get it better as time goes along.
So far so good. Only oddity is that if you tap the back you hear a rattle. Evidently it is the camera autofocus mechanism. |

iphone 5 is a big win in my book. I was about a year over due for a new phone from an old Palm Pre. The new OS is taking some getting used to , but I like it. |
two days in and have to make a trip to the apple store.... the lightning cable went bad. When plugged in the phone cycles rapidly as if it's being plugged in and unplugged every tenth of a second. Verified it was the cable since I had a my wife's handy. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

I'm sure there will be some glitches with the new hardware. Will be interesting to see the battery life reports now with LTE in the equation.
The other cool thing is apparently if you bought a Verizon version it is unlocked GSM out of the box. So you could buy an ATT/T-Mobile nano sim or international one and use it. |
I definitely want the Galaxy S3. That drop-test makes me weary though. I've got a Motorola Bionic and I love it. With the extended battery nobody makes a case, though. I've dropped it countless times and the worst that has happened is the back pops off and the battery flies away. Still runs great and no damage to the phone.
