Apple iPhone 5 review - Pocket-lint
Looks like the new iphone requires a new smaller sim card...At a glance the SIM card slot looks the same as well, but it isn't. It's actually smaller and that's because the phone now features the smaller format nano SIM, rather than a micro SIM. Yep you'll have to order a new SIM for your iPhone 5 and, as the name suggests, it's tiny. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1348024366.jpg |
Looks again like you could cut down the micro, just like you could cut the regular to make a micro....
Doesn't matter to me, I'll be switching carriers next time... |
Don't think it's possible to go from micro to nano. Yes, you CAN cut down a mini to make a micro out of it but micros are so common these days (nobody still uses minis) it doesn't matter.
It looks like to "cut down" a micro you'd be cutting into the metal part to notch the corner which is potentially problematic if there's microcircuitry in there, as well as the fact that the metal sections of the SIM don't correspond to the pattern on the nano. YMMV. Haven't tried it or needed to. I'm sticking with my 4 for a while. Maybe I'll buy the iPhone 6 when it comes out in a year or two - the 5 looks cool but not "run right out and spend another $500" cool. |

Receive my black and white 5's.
The black is boring looking compared to the white. The black is all black - no silver border like the 4S. Very droid-ish. Very thin and light. All native apps open very quickly. Still on hold with ATT to activate but so far iOS 6 has some cool features. The do not disturb looks very cool - probably use that way too much. |
my black from Verizon came this am. Sim preinstalled, activated via wifi, fully operational in about 90 seconds. No phone call needed :D Though I will have to call in to port my old number which still is operation and has a few days left on the monthly deal.
|
I am trying to switch numbers between phones but regardless I believe an online chat or phone call to ATT is required.
Got through and hung up on mid conversation - fun stuff. Back on hold. |
wife just got her white iphone....wow, good looking phone! edit: activation- 90 seconds...

Played around alittle with the iphone5 at the store -- much lighter than my iphone4, screen is notably larger - overall, a good evolutionary improvement. -Z-man. |
New connector is very nice. Small but seems very well built.
ATT LTE is blazing fast. Mobile internet is now faster than my Wifi which is 12g Uverse. Very pleased so far. |

LTE is so freaking fast!! What a difference from 3G!

Everything is up and running on my 5. It's much faster than my 4. The display is fantastic. Extra screen real estate is nice as well.

My son's contract was up and it's his birthday, so.... Took him to the local Apple Store. 10 minute wait. While in line they gave him a card indicating which iphone5 he wanted. Once inside, it was maybe the best service I've ever seen. Enthusiastic sales guy had him up and running with his account linked and his new phone synced in just a few minutes. Then he showed him some new cool features. Phone looks great. More impressed with the service.
