stressing for youall in the gulf coast.
I'm starting to worry about you folks in the Panhandle, Mobil and NOLA. Lets hope the storm breaks up and just brings some rain.
My family in Mobil AL and Mandeville LA. are probably planning an evacucation if needed. That's a term coined by my niece a few years ago after many trips to safety. Is it time to start moving cars to high ground? All the best, Richard Last edited by tevake; 08-27-2012 at 12:24 AM.. |

This storm is not going to be easy. This will produce winds higher for New Orleans that that with Katrinaa. The wind Field is so large that we will have tropical storm force winds for 2 days solid and hurricane force winds for about 11 hours. Also, this is the 7 anniversary of Katrinaa and the 4 year anniversary of Gustave that did much more damage than Katrina in the Baton Rouge area. Our only hope is that it doesn't strengthen in the gulf and this thing keeps moving fast.

They are looking to updating the hurricane CAT's based on total energy instead of maximum windspeed. IKE was a massive storm, but only CAT 2. It was the third most powerful storm on record using on a energy model.
Size matters

Im much more worried about this today than I was yesterday. It's going so slow through the Gulf. This is going to be a big storm.

^ yep the slow travel speed is a problem, longer and higher serge plus more time for rain to build up. My Brother and I traveled thru LA this summer. I was blown away at how much low land and water covers the state. looks like a long run to get to high ground. How do you guys deal with too many cars to drive out?
Hoping for the best for ya! Richard |

it was a solid line of cars heading west this morning. 2 lanes east and 2 lanes west.. one lane heading north from here. by tomorrow afternoon it's going to be a parking lot headed out of town and for the next 80 miles to I10.

'kinda goes with the territory of coastal living I guess. Shows what your priorities are. I have locked the 944 up in the shop. My H3 will have to stay outdoors!

It still amazes me that such a large storm hit the 4th largest city and barely anything happened aside from mostly fallen trees and power outages. Not including along the coast of course.
