One of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. is getting rid of its police department.

Amid what they call a “public safety crisis,” officials in Camden, N.J., plan to disband the city's 141-year-old police department and replace it with a non-union division of the Camden County Police.

Camden city officials have touted the move as necessary to combat the city’s growing financial and safety problems. The entire 267-member police department will be laid off and replaced with a newly reformatted metro division, which is projected to have some 400 members. It will serve only the city of Camden starting in early 2013.

Layoffs of the city’s police force will begin by the end of the month, according to the mayor’s office. County officials said that at most 49 percent of the city’s police officers, based on an application process, will be transferred to the new county division under the plan.

Gabriel said the terms of contract for current officers of the city's police department, which include longevity bonuses, day-shift differentials and other costs, make it too expensive to transfer all of them to the new force, so the rest of the Metro Division will be staffed by new hires. Louis Cappelli Jr., director of the Camden County Board of Freeholders, told NBC News that more than 1,500 people from various states and police backgrounds have already applied for the county positions.

It seems the wages and benefits being offerred for the new force are more than good enough to attract prospective officers.

This "news" was out Monday and is just now being picked up by NBC. New Jersey State has to approve this before the dept can disband. The new county force will not form until the end of 2012 (not that far off).

It does seem to have everything to do with the union plus law suits and little to do with OJU's agenda.

This is yet another alarmist propaganda thread that belongs in PARF.

oh i have been there both camden and newark.


what really got me last time i had to stay there for factory training in fairlawn,n.j. at sandvik corp, right next to nabisco , for 3 weeks was when we went to atlantic city one weekend.



heres the difference btwn vegas and atlantic city.



everyone in atlantic city was dressed to the "nines". EVERYONE! didnt matter 3pm in the afternoon or 7am in the morning or 2am in the morning.


men 3 pc suits or tuxes.

women-evening gowns and i MEAN HOT EVENING GOWNS!

vegas: everybody slobbed out in shorts/t-shirts morning noon and night.



but what blew us a way was stepping out of trumps place and across the street, literally across the street were bombed out burnt out homes with graffiti everywhere. and we were warned NOT TO CROSS THE STREET and GO OVER THERE!



i honestly dont think i could show you a place anywhere in az. that bad and that BIG!

cabrini green,ill., before it was torn down made camden,n.j. look like a gem.


i have seen alot of inner city blight in my travels.


literally walk/drive across a street and yer in a war zone.


its a sad comment on our society.


and whats happening to camden is happening a lot of other places.


not enough cops, because everybodys moving to the "burbs" to get away from crime, therefore not enough tax base.


if ya cant run a honest biz,pay taxes, and be safe...............the biz folds simple as that.


throw in insane OSHA/EPA laws...............and mfg goes elsewhere. evident by all the mfg. moving to lake havasu ,az. from the L.A. basin and elsewhere.


same with vegas. vast majority of mfg. biz has left L.A. basin area for greener more mfg. friendly places.



samo with phx/tucson. staunch UNION companies sick of UNION B.S. pull up stakes and move operations to RIGHT TO WORK STATES...........problem solved.


and i will also venture a hell of a lot of "MORDIDA" was going on with the camden cops being on the take to have this happen.


the reason i wrote this is that btwn strict gun laws, skyrocketing crime, a regular joe biz man CANNOT MAKE AN HONEST LIVING.


its cause and effect.


if i owned a biz.............and was held up robbed 2-3 times..................i would move, end of subject.

I recall the C___________ had the big panic attack that his ex-wife (or about to be EX) was reading his posts. He said he had to leave here and wouldn't be back.....I enjoy his thoughts, but agree, hard to read...
