RIP Neil Armstrong
Astronaut Neil Armstrong, first man to walk on moon, dies at age 82 - U.S. News
My Dad was his personal bodyguard when he returned from the moon. Got to meet him a few times and was in awe every time.

They should put his remains on the moon. It would be very fitting.
RIP indeed

It was like 7 or 8 PM IIRC, I was working my first studio job as a laborer sweeping floors at Warner Bros. Stage 31 when we went live and ...oops, nevermind.

I was 15 as well. We were on a family vacation in Amherst Junction Wisconsin. My Grandfather did not believe it was happening, said it was all "hollywood".
I have to say that when I heard it in my car today, it really left me with a hollow feeling. My hero of that era was Edward White, the first American to EVA. Ed White died on Apollo 1, I was devastated.

Living in a time now where the term "hero" has been over used and devalued, Neil Armstrong was, and is, the very definition of the word. RIP

Was an amazing man and the coolest under pressure. Read his book. Couldn't blame him for his solitude later at his farm. With all the fraudulent autographs and scams making money by using his name are some of the reasons he absolutely refused to do any autographs or appearances.
Another was his relationship and interaction with Buzz Aldrin. True odd-couple. Whats more odd is Aldrin never took a photo of Armstrong on the moon! The only image of Armstrong is his reflection in Aldrins face shield while he was photographing Aldrin. Thats an irony. Of engineering and aviation minded that despised politics yet much of the decision to select him as the first was exactly that. I think he knew that and respected it by rarely speaking of the event later on.
