He doesn't bother to mention it, but some of the diesels are pushing those numbers already and, while they are more, they aren't subsidized 'hybrid' more and they aren't microcars. Also, where's natural gas in the discussion? Even if only fleets and industrial users (boilers, etc...) move over to NG, that's more petroleum based fuel for the rest of us taking some pressure off.
That said, government intervention is not desirable but neither is heavy dependance on foreign fuel sources. We need to find a balance somehow. The next 10 years will be interesting. Last edited by thingmon; 09-03-2012 at 09:29 AM.. |

He also doesn't bother to mention that despite knowing all of this, US car makers are still planning for cars that they know wont pass. It's hard to feel sorry for companies who refuse to move forward, and try to to do something to save themselves. Yes the standards are harsh, but you have to advance at some point or you become stagnant.

I don't know enough to condemn the CAFE action but apparently (and as reported by Edmunds), it's a "plan" and it's set to be reviewed midway in the 9 year period in which autos are expected to gradually get increased mileage ratings.
I think if we could meet and stay along side EU achievements we'd be fine. But we don't get to emulate anyone even if they ARE better than US. |
