taking a roadtrip..etiquette amongst friends question.

say you will have to drive a long way from your house NORTH to get to vacation spot.

and you have a buddy going with you..but this buddy lives 45 mins south. should the buddy meet at your place? or should you go and pick him up?...under his excuse/logic, "hey, i would like to leave a car in front of my house so people think i am home with my wife"..(my wife would be solo car in front of the house). i would literally past right past my house 1.5 hours later..

what does the pelican MISS MANNERS dept say?

He drives to your place. It is unreasonable that you would add 1-1/2 hrs to both legs of your trip, especially when you are the driver.

Your travel pardner is getting the trip off on the wrong foot to me.
Suggest he drive on up to your place, no brainer, what is he thinking?

Cheers Richard

Tell him to get the wife a CCW and drive to your place, end of story.

Tell him to have his wife bring him to your place and pick you up if he thinks it's NBD. The 45 minute drive, that is.

You don't need a CCW to own a gun and protect your property and person, (at home), in CA.

Tell him that the extra miles will likely cause a blow out with your bulging tires.

Are you sharing travel costs? (fuel)

I would pick him IF he agreed to pay the extra fuel costs to and from his house. Then it's only time.
But friends and money...

What about a taxi or bus to yours?

If I was your friend it wouldn't even be a question. I'd get to your place without your help. It sounds like he's a "user".

He could make some new friends by hitchiking to your place.

That's 45min x 4 = 3 hours of your life you'll never get back!!.. Not to mention how absolutely beat you'll be on the way home... Sorry but he can have a wife/gf/kid drop him off and pick him up if leaving a car in front of his house is so important..
Why not just have his next door neighbor park at his place for the week ?

ok..passed the pelican litmus test as far as i'm concerned.

my wife thinks i should go and get him, file away the data, and really think about next time.

i dont know what the eff is wrong with my buds..the last guy, i drove (again) and he disappeared every single fuel up..i paid 100% of the gas. this guy, i didnt invite on this trip. they get one attempt..we are still friends, but i am not driving him anywhere.

If he's so worried he could drive his wife's car to your place so it will look like his car is parked at home the whole time. Bottom line? I would have responded to his request with laughter. It's too silly to consider.
