Is it too late in the year to take up golf?

I havent swung a golf club in probably seven years. A customer of mine keeps inviting me to play golf and I'm running out of excuses. I loved the game back when I played but it took up so much of my time even for 9 holes so I dropped it. I think I'll have to pick it up again but I'll need lessons. Do you think it's too late in the year to get started? Rains don't start for another month here in Northern CA.

Golf is a vengeful lover. I used to play 4-6 times a week, I now play <10 times a year. My mind can't reconcile how I used to play vs how I play now.

I now shoot the scores that I used to roll my eyes at and wonder "Why does that guy even play?"

If you can get past that then by all means take the game back up.

If you were a decent player before, all you will need is a couple of hours of range time to find your groove.

If, like me, you suck at golf, then all the practice and lessons in the world isn't going to help anyway. So go for it.

I used to want to play golf every day. Now I'd rather drive my Porsche.

I play a few times a year only for business. Golf, which I used to enjoy playing well, bores the stuffing out of me now. My mind starts to wander after the 9th hole.

The only golf I enjoy now is four man best ball.

If I know I am going to play, I hit the range twice the week before and get semblance of a swing back. I also play a "simulated" nine holes, switching clubs between each shot.

Cooler weather and twilight prices usually start early, what's not to like?

I basically quit except for the occasional best ball outing with friends. I got so frustrated it wasnt fun most of the time.

The time of year doesn't matter. There are plenty of nice golf days year-round in NorCal. You just might get rained out once in a while during the rainy season.

Take it up now for a few more months. Then you might get the itch for it next spring. I play my best golf in Aug-Nov. and love it all the time. It's just me against me looking for the next best shot. A game for a lifetime.

Location location location.

I think next week will be the perfect time to start here in TX.

I live in a golf course community and marvel at the dedication of some of my neighbors who are out there everyday in the blazing 105 heat.

F that, I'll play in the winter when it's not an oven.

You can always work on your short game no matter the weather. Indoor that is.

I'm looking forward to doing that this winter. Right now in GA, with no A/C in the Targa, it has to be going at least 60mph or the driver drowns in his own sweat.

unless the course is covered in snow; get out and ruin a nice walk in the park chasing a little white ball.

there is nothing like looking for a plugged ball in the middle of the fairway in january.
