Holy Camaros Batman
Recently moved to the Houston area and are looking for a new abode. Saw an ad for this house which was close to what we are looking for and it also advertised a huge garage and a separate workshop ideal for the hobbyist?? Happened to be an open house that weekend so....
The "huge garage" will hold six cars (four in tanden) but one full side was taken up by a 7 ton lift, a parts washing bin, tool boxes, workbenches, etc. and .. sitting on the lift was a 60 something Camaro with a completely rebuilt under carriage, transmission, engine etc... but still needing some body work. In the workshop (big enough to hold six cars) were a beautifully restored SS 396 Camaro, Plymouth GTX Roadrunner (440) and a Z28 Camaro and 2 Camaros which were covered but sitting on flat tires apparently waiting to be restored. The walls of the workshop were lined with old bicycles, oil cans, gas cans, automobile signs. Someone is into serious Camaro restorations. Don't know what years any of the cars were but all late 60's or early 70's: ![]() SS396 and GTX Roadrunner ![]() ![]() Z28

I'm pretty sure you're not doing the owner any favors by taking pics of his cars and posting them on a large, public forum. Just saying.

Don't know Roadrunners, but Camaro-wise, there's a white '69 (Could be an RS) and the rear quarter panel is either a 70 or a 71.

Some of us are just not that security minded ( I know its not really paranoia )
but maybe a good reminder. 74 911, buy the place and have the area pelicans over for a house / garage warming. You'll end up with more new friends than you can shake a stick at. Cheers Richard |

I'm not very security minded at all.... quite the opposite. But, I'd be pretty pissed if I had an open house, then discovered pictures of my 993 and motorcycles on the internet.

Then don't leave them there. Lock the garage and put a pic on the door of is empty. Open house is open house. If you leave your jewelry unlocked, it will get stolen. Someone will take a crap in your toilet. That's how it is.

Yeah, OK. I'll find a place for 25 motorcycles and a 993 for my open house, or they'll get stolen. Good plan

Well, who's pissy now? You know, if you're selling your house, I guess you're planning to move. If you're planning to move, get on with it.
On the open house thing, most houses look better staged. The buyers don't want to see your stuff or smell your stuff. A garage full of anything, model trains, junk on the floor, guns and ammo (especially that) should all be gone. If you've go 25 motorcycles and a Porsche 911 around, you are distracting the buyers. I can think of many ways you're distracting the buyers, but the list is too long for here. You shouldn't even be there. Buyers will look at the owner and get ideas. You don't want buyers thinking anything except where they would put this and put that. One piece of missing furniture in the staging will make them think how they would furnish the house. Sold. Get yourself and your stuff out of the way. Or don't have an open house. There's always that PLAN. |

Or how about people (the OP) just do the right thing. You don't have to post everything you see on the internet. I guess expecting a little common sense is asking to much. If I were looking at a house, I would expect to see the garage, but i wouldnt post a picture. Having a home open for an open house exposes it to a lot less people then posting a picture on the internet.

Yeah, I know that the OP didn't mean any harm but it's considered pretty bad manners to do that. And as far as emptying out the garage for an open house, I disagree that it would make it more appealing. Anyone looking at a suburban house with a 6-car garage is a serious gear head with a lot of toys. It would not turn me off one bit to see the guy's cars there.

And lifting the car covers to take pics is double-bad form.

All I'm saying is that if you have an open house, expect the unexpected. I didn't say it was right to post pics of the cars. Probably others took pics and posted them to their friends on FB. If you open your house, it will be exploited.
Living in supposedly the best neighborhood in the US, we have this home tour every year as described in the article. Why anyone would do this is way beyond me. I've attended and was a docent one year. I've actually seen people taking pics and talking on their phones describing the contents of the homes. It was like why don't we let everyone check out the alarm system as well as see the contents first hand? I've had a couple of garage sales, but NEVER in my garage! The OP did wrong but he did pretty much what everyone does nowadays. So I didn't think much about it. He'd would have not seen anything at my house. It won't be there when it's time to sell. Actually, I'd love to see my garage totally empty. It'd be great to start over from scratch. |

I didn't intent to stir anything up, guess I should have explained things a bit better. I posted the pictures (taken during the inspection) because all of it is already being moved out. We went over the entire place very thoroughly during the inspection and I took a lot of pictures (and no, I did not post any of them anywhere else, particularly on a place like FB). I already have a contract on the house and barring unforseen circumstances will start moving in in mid Oct. The lift is not part of the deal unfortunately...
As to the posting and pictures, I don't think I posted anything which compromised anyones security. The garage and workshop were two of the big selling points (or not) and were wide-open during the open house. I assure you there was no way he could have cleaned them out.

So Jack, where is the house? What part of Houston? I'm on the West side, north of the Energy Corridor.
