I would; consider the Pepper-Oil over the X5D.

I looked and looked/test drove the X5's... really wanting to like one enough to buy. They are good looking rigs.

I didn't want to like the Cayenne (911 owner - you know)

Anyway, I have a Pepperwagon and really love it.

maybe the BMW's just don't fit me -not as comfortable. Maybe it's that the X5 seem crude by comparison.

Meh. Can we be done with SUVs that are neither sporty nor utility? For the same money I'll take a CTS-V wagon and have way more fun not giving a damn about my MPG, while hauling an equal amount of stuff.

The 7,700 pound tow rating demonstrates pretty decent utility.

Some would also point to its off-road ability.

Neither of which a CTS-v wagon would do very well.

Isn't it great that we have both to choose from?

Yes, choice is always good. I can't recall seeing a Cayenne owner towing anything or with a muddy car, despite them being anywhere here. I have, however, seen a CTS-V owner hauling ass. It's nice to see people using cars for their intended purpose.

Mud? Towing? Yea, will never happen to mine unless they dig up the parking lot at the grocery store.

Nope, those that I see in the wild are all piloted by soccer moms and rich old ladies.

I was about to say something similar. I see lots of Touaregs, Q5s, and Cayennes towing car trailers. Even a couple towing smaller travel trailers.

I also see CTS-Vs set on cruise control in the slow lane.

I'll bet most vehicles, regardless of their intended purpose, are usually seen plodding along in everyday boring use. They're buying the capabilities for that 2%-of-the-time use.

That's what I'm looking for. Our XC90 is getting a little long in the tooth. 80% of my use would be better served by a wagon (thinking BMW 5 series). Then I need to drive in a vineyard our haul a bunch of cases of wine and the Utility component weighs in - I really do need an SUV type vehicle. I like the X5d, but they are so common up here and I have difficulty getting in and out (I'm short and the high seat bolsters are a pain to slip over). Might have to look at this...

Thanks for posting!!

fwiw, I see the Cayenne (or the X5) as quiet comfortable capable vehicle for all nasty condition.

As far as 'Off road' use, you should see the 'roads' in Seattle proper. Tall wheels and adaptive suspension are good things. ...although I do some times worry about the low profile tires on the broken roads.

So...this is a Touareg with a facelift, yes? Something like an Audi Q5?

Touareg, Q7 (not Q5), and Cayenne are all the same. And the upcoming Bentley and Lamborghini SUVs

Porsche designed it, and then sold a chunk of the design to VW.

Of course VW now owns Porsche. ...but VW is headed by Porsche family.

Does it matter?

Are you sure? I'm not disagreeing with you, I just feel like the Q7 (my father owns one) is much larger than the Cayenne and the Touareg.

Well, yeah...the Touareg has been available as a diesel (TDI) for a decade (8 years in the USA). How is this pushing the envelope?
