Busted twice in one day by the red light camera

Well I've been driving in Colorado for 20 years and must have forgotten that you have to stop before making a turn on a red light. I must be getting senile or something because I had to look up the law.

I own a check cashing store at the top of this intersection and I was driving to the hardware store around the corner to get something. In fact I drove to the hardware store TWICE and they got me both times.

I now owe $150 to the city, ($75 each incident) and possibly more coming in the mail. This was on 8/25 so I probably have about six more tickets coming to me. So Colorado drivers, be careful!

What's the most current story in Denver re: "Personal Service" of Speed cam and Red light tickets? I hear a different story every time.

No idea, the "tickets" mailed to me each have different officers names on them. Supposedly they review the tickets and decide which ones are going to generate revenue.. err I mean which person was breaking the law.

It says to sign the back if I wish to appear in court, and of course it's not worth it to me to go to court over $153 so they can then show me the video of me breaking the law.
I suppose if I cared a bit more I would find a way to fight it.

I paid one I got a few years ago. Red light with the video. I think where I (and you) screwed up is that we watched the video link they sent us in the citation. I'm sure they can tell we went to the site and punched in our personal number on the ticket. To me, this is an acknowledgement that we received the "service."

Son of a! I didn't think about that, I have a family full of lawyers and didn't think to call any of them before I put my citation and pin code in.

speeder 09-10-2012 07:13 PM

I'm sorry that you have to pay all those tickets but how could you not know that you have to stop first at a red light before making a right on red?? That sounds almost unbelievable. Did you also never notice that there is a red light camera at this corner?

I admit, I just somehow forgot about the law, or I never knew it to begin with. I've actually never had a ticket before this, so it's likely I've been doing this all my life and just finally got caught by the camera.

I was vaguely aware that they had installed the cameras, I mean I've seen the flash go off before when people ran the light. It's entirely my fault, really. I would like to pay only one citation, or possibly have the option to perform community service instead but it is what it is I suppose.

I know! I didn't think of it either. I wanted to see the video. It was of my then eight year old daughter and I returning from a Club event in my 70 E. We were both giggling about something and I thought it was adorable.

Only as I watched it after punching in the something like twelve digit number did I realize I had cooked my own goose.

I've ignored a bunch of speed radar tickets to no ill effect.

Are there any of these signs around town?

Are they at every intersection?

If not, how are visitors supposed to know?

Does the ticket go with the car or the driver...if it were, say, your wife, how would that camera know?

I also don't think looking at the video is necessarily admission of guilt...how about "I looked at the video because I hadn't been driving my car that day, and that wasn't me driving"

Goes with the car according to the citation, and they have about five shots of me driving all in very good detail.

Bsurf: the resolution is unbelievable. Unless Scott had on a bandana, it's him and it's clear.

I'm with Speeder, basic driver's ed. Red means stop.

Scott R 09-10-2012 08:03 PM

I may as well have been waving to the camera.

The last photo was 5mb originally.

Ya just gotta stay out of Aurora! Buckley and Iliff? Yeah, just saw it on the picture. I know that intersection.

One more time...

Are there any RIGHT ON RED AFTER STOP signs around town?

No. In Colorado, there's

NO sign at all,

or there's a

"No right on Red" sign.

Most red light cameras here go off for ANY car that touches the curb line. This is the first time I've seen a video, though.
