Was it ever determined whether this company had to go outside to get the civil engineer's stamp? If not, then they can absorb some cost from commissions or profit fairly easily. They might be cutting a check for the 600 and making nothing, yet getting you what you need. And some companies just refuse to give stuff away, so you can take it or leave it. I tell you, the recession ain't happening everywhere any more. Some folks are beyond busy.

Time to look at this from the practical side.

I would agree if it wasn't a standard building, which I am assuming.

The seller has all those costs regardless of whether or not they give him a photocopy.

But no one can do this cheaper than the seller, because (presumably) they know it complies with the building code, and they've done the requisite safety calculations. Anyone else has to do it from scratch.

By "approved" I assume you mean "sealed".

Yea, this is not a "photocopy" of a drawing by any means. An engineer is assuming responsibility for the design, and that takes money.

I built a shop and a garage all I handed the inspector was a cross section drawing of the foundation/wall detail and the trusses came with an engineering drawing.

He also wanted a site survey at first, but once I told him I was 150' from the property line he said don't worry about it.

What's a HOA?
