did you ever do something stupid in your youth that risked your life?

i was thinking of my near death experiences due to my own youthful stupidity. man, i am lucky i am not dead!!

PPOT is a huge colorful section of the populations. let's hear some stories. we throw around that Darwin statement plenty around here..what have you done that almost ended it?

me? i thought it was good fun to put .22 bullets into a straw and toss it up into the air. the .22 "dart" would land primer down and POP! send that bullet, who-knows-where!!

i also once made a bomb. we had reloading powder, some fusing cord, and a bottle..and lots of duct tape. the resulting explosion was much bigger than we expected.

i also took a bunch or random dried weeds, wrapped it in a sheet of big chief notebook paper..me and a friend tried to smoke it. it was a gigantic joint. we vomited for hours.

all this happened when i was around 12.

Are you kidding me...I've now passed 3 decade milestones that I didn't think there was a chance in hell of reaching . I can't remember a lot of them...but yeah, I've just been lucky...

When I was about 10, a buddy and I found some ammo in the barn. We took a .308 round and placed it on the end of a bb gun barrell after we had pumped it about 70x. Man, that was a loud bang about 2' from our heads. When his mom got home, she asked me why I was bleeding. I hadn't noticed the tear in my shirt. I still have that scar, don't know if it was shrapnel or part of the casinig or what.

Made a hydrogen generator out of lye, aluminum foil and a soda bottle. Filled one of the old time dry cleaner bags with it. Let it float around in the basement. Flipped a lit match on top. Instant Hindenburg. Oh the humanity. Mom and Dad were at the bar.

My younger brother and I shot .22s in the basement all the time. Safe shooting. Like "Hold this cigarette out and I'll shoot the fire off". Turned out, one of our backstop boxes contained Mom's wedding dress.

Might have or have not set off a pipebomb that set off a bank alarm 1/4 mile away. it blew while I was having diner with my folks. It was a big enough event that my parents remembered it 25 years later when I mentioned it at Christmas diner. They didn't think that I might have or might not have anything to do with it.

Yes, I've done some stupid poo and 12 broken bones, a totaled car, wrecked bikes etc. and all of it sober.

I read a few posts and my first thought was "I can't wait to get home, get the boys and try that."

I will try everything listed in this thread, starting with the .22 bullet and straw idea.

I was 20 when I got my first motorcycle in Germany. I often rode to work in the pre-dawn hours when there was no traffic. So I used to see how far I could ride with my eyes closed before I chickened out. I don't think I ever made it to 30 seconds.

I think we've had a thread like this before if anyone cares or knows where to look. I remember some hair raising stories. Things like sticking fingers in electrical sockets.

We started out making rockets with CO2 cartridges. After the cartridge was dead, pack the cartridge with match heads. Put it in a metal pipe and shoot it across a field. One time we packed the match heads a little too tight. We lit the fuse and none of us saw where it went. After looking all over we gave up and picked up the pipe. It was swollen on one end and almost split. We had made a grenade and lit it while standing a foot or so away. Of course instead of quitting we had discovered how to make bombs. We ramped up production with black powder. We finally put one inside a juice can, inside a coke can, inside a coffee can inside a small trash can inside a big trash can covered in rocks. When it went off it was amazing. Somehow we all survived without a scratch from that.

All of that was in the 60s. Today the ATF, FBI, Homeland Security and who knows else would be called out to investigate.

Statue of limitations runs out after 30 yrs right??

All I'm gonna say is one of them involved this, it was late at night, its a lot steeper than it looks, and I would have made a huge splash...
