A few years back I was in "Barrow in Furness" stuck outside the hotel at 11PM in the rain because they forgot to tell me "code" for the front door... I had to throw rock to the window of the owner suite on the 3rd floor for 10 minutes before the bloke showed up to the window...

Reminds me of staying at a bed and breakfast in the Lake District. After 3-4 pints of beer I went back to my hotel at 11pm. Somewhat different situation - they thought I was already in my room. After pounding on the door for 20 minutes, the son of the owner let me in.
I was unable to find my room(somewhat inebriated) and he let me look in all the bedrooms till I finally found mine. It was the only empty bed.Till the next time LOL
