Eleven Years Did We Forget?

Today is the day we said we would never forget.

It has been a long war.

Makes me sick.

Horrible.

Was sitting in the cockpit of the jet in NYC waiting for our passengers when it happened.

Copilot came running to the cockpit yelling to come inside the building. Did so and watched the 2nd jet hit the tower. I had been back from working in Saudi for about 2 years and immediately knew it was Bin Laden....

Nope, will never forget...

Neither will my flight attendent that day. The recording released of the crew where the flight attendent had her throat slit by the terrorists and she was captured screaming on the tape. This F/A was my flight attendents room-mate in training with the airline...

I will never forget. The day had a crisp coolness to it as if to remind us that fall is going to be here soon. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was a shade of blue that is seldom seen here in the mid-atlantic. I was working at an independent BMW/Porsche shop and we watched the second plane hit on the TV in the break room, I was sick to my stomach.
My daughter was home from school sick that morning and the wife had stopped by with her after a Dr. appointment, and all I could do was hug my little girl. A sadness had set in that is hard to explain, I was sad that my children are going to grow up in a world that will never know what it is like to actually feel safe. I felt very bad for bringing two children into a world like the one we have now.
As I was holding my baby girl she told me "It's okay daddy, the Dr. said I just have a cold" I didn't even realize how tight I was holding her. She asked my wife later that day what was wrong with me, and my wife tried to explain to an 11 year old the events of the day.
Later that night after all of the planes were grounded, I was standing outside smoking a cig in the total darkness of country living, looking up at the sky when a jet flying dark screamed overhead not too far above the trees heading north came out of the middle of nowhere and left in the same manner. My sadness turned to pride as I knew what that plane was and it's intentions.
The anger I felt eleven years ago has not tempered with time, and I doubt it ever will. I don't know anybody that was murdered that day, and nothing was taken from me, but what they took from my children is something that can never be replaced.
It seems that the flag flew a little higher on the front of my house that day, It still flies proud today as it did everyday before the attacks.
To answer your question, NO I haven't forgotten, nor will I ever.
To our service men and woman who have served and who are serving, Thank you from a bitter old man.

That's haunting. I hope you are well and are not dwelling on this.

I watched it happen live on TV. I'll never forget.

Impossible to forget. The problem is I always remember it.

My company had contracts in the towers to do all the HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler work, (requirements contract).

I lost three high school and childhood friends, a coworkers brother, my daughter's teachers husband and a dozen or so construction manager friends. My cousin and one of our field supers narrowly escaped. They were going to get their ID's updated, would have to go to the 3B office, when they turned the corner onto Liberty St and the first plane hit. The devestation was incredible.

I stood on the roof of my shop only to watch the second plane hit and the towers fall.

God, there is not a single day I do not look toward those buildings on the way home.

I still have dreams, bad dreams. I still can't get the image of paper from someone's desk landing on me, with a hand written memo.

I can't forget, it won't let me.

Taken on 9/11/12....we are coming back!

Of all the days of my 65+ years, I think I remember 9/11 most vividly, from the time I stopped to get gas at approx 8;30 something and heard the news. I was headed to LGA for a flight to Toronto, never happened. I lived within the traffiic pattern at DXR and that night the silence was deafening. Remember hearing Warner Wolf on "Imus in the Morning" say that an aircraft had hit one of the towers. Our son was scheduled to fly into Manhattan from KPOU to drop clients off at 34th heliport and my first thought was whether he was on the ground or in the air. He hadn't departed and I was glad of that. The day went downhill from there.

I remember it every day.

Yesterday, 9/11/12, was a beautiful morning in the southern Adirondacks and I went flying, in smooth air, sunshine in the cockpit, reflecting off the lakes. It was a beautiful but very sad day for me (and for many) once again.
