Fired :(

Argh, I must be the only person who has ever been fired from a voluntary job

I was really enjoying doing my Community Patrol work but we got a new boss and she didn't like my style. I pointed out some truths to her such as the team of 26 have only caught 7 people and I caught 6 of them.

She was going on about to observe only etc and someone had seen an extendable batton in my car and she was accusing me of having an offensive weapon. I showed her an extending camera monopod for my camera and explained that there must have been some confusion about that. Plus a complaint or two about my interation with a guy who cut down a tree on my property so he could see the beach better.

She said the main problem was aggressive behaviour but with the occassional methamphamined person out there it was either them or me.

The stink thing is I was the only effective person on the whole team.

So I'm feeling a bit upset.

I hope "she" gets to pull some of your patrols. Might change her perspective. But, too late. She screwed the pooch. Somethings don't get to be undone.

Do some other volunteer work and forget about the myopic b1tch. Sooner or later someone will send her a douche bag, mounted and framed.

Thanks for your supprt guys. I'm feeling pretty weird about it. There was me thinking I was the good guy driving around at 4am when I would rather be asleep, but doing the right thing for the community. The first cop we had bought me beers and patted me on the back for a job well done. Talk about scary having, effectively ememys, trying to get me to confess to carrying an offensive weapon etc. Really witch hunting me. Two cops doing an hour and a quarter questioning of me.

Community policing groups can be under very heavy pressure from the PD to not be aggressive, she may be paranoid after a couple of meetings with the Chief.

I wouldn't sweat it, start your own group.

In case you didn't know it before this, welcome to the usual world of the mediocre beaurocrat (sp.? - I can never remember exactly how to spell that). They're everywhere & can't stand somebody who is actually effective.

Thanks guys for the support and good humour. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I suspect tomorrow I'll be saying who cares. But right now I'm embarrassed, upset and feel like getting even with the tree guy who has made a couple of complaints.

Seriously, start your own group. You obviously have a passion for this, just do it. There are no real barriers, just red tape. Do it.

I used to do allot of volunteer work, now I do a little.
One thing someone told me that stuck in my head after getting burned big time by someone I was trying to help:
NAVY
never again volunteer yourself.

When I was younger I tried to help drug addicts get their lives back together.
Don't bother. I've been screwed over way more than I've helped.

You really want to make a difference in the community? Volunteer to help shut-in widows. They really need it and really appreciate it, but you'll have to get used to getting your heart broken on a regular basis.
It's the hardest thing I've ever done. Your local pastor can help you set it up.
I'm not strong enough to do it more than once in a while.
The hardest is at the Christmas holidays.
About every other year we'll bring an elderly woman into our home to share Christmas with us who has no real family.
You'll make a difference in their lives for a little while but it will hurt so much you'll say you can't do it again.
After a while you'll forget how bad it felt when you had to take them home to that lonely place where they are waiting to die alone, and remember their joy when they get to care about someone for a little while and have someone care about them.
That will really make you appreciate all you have and make you feel ashamed for taking it for granted.
Believe it or not it even makes me stop being an ******* for a little while.

If two cops are questioning you for an hour and a half, you need to stay off the roads at four AM. Sounds like bad business. Stay far away, and don't get tempted. It's a small world, when you are dealing with small people. Help them out - out of your life.

I've been fired as a volunteer and it does effect ones ego. Try not to let it bother you, it most likely will not be the last time something like this happens. Our world has gone soft on the bad guys, in my opinion that is not good and I will not change my ways or turn the other cheek. Good for you for getting the job done!
