Will This Be A Bad Flu Season?

The last few days, I've been really tired. Tired at work, go home and take a nap, still tired.

On my commute, I've felt weak and slow. Haven't been pushing hard, not even passing girls, just riding like a slacker. Look down thinking I'm in the little cog, but I'm halfway up the cluster. Even checked if my tire was rubbing on something, nope.

My son and wife had colds last week, my daughter came down with a bad cold yesterday, but I didn't think I was getting it. I didn't get sick once last year.

Sitting at my desk today, trying to concentrate on a spreadsheet, and I realized - I was feeling little aches, I was cold, my head was fuzzy and started to hurt.

. . . Dammit! I'm getting sick!

Is it too late to get a flu shot? Take a bunch of Airborne or Zicam? Or just suffer?

Is this going to be a bad flu season? I see some headlines about a SARS-like virus somewhere abroad.

Do colds and flus slowly sneak up in you like this? Normally, they hit me right away or not at all, which is why I figured I wasn't getting anything.

We had a cold like funk that ran through our family a few weeks ago, similar symptoms. Lots of folks out at work during the same timeframe. It corresponded to a pretty drastic seasonal change in weather, so I thought maybe that was connected?

Did some reading - the nasal version of Zicam was pulled from the market after many complaints of impaired smell, the company paid a sizeable settlement. The oral version doesn't seem to have an unusual level of complaints so I think it is probably safe enough.

Flu shot will not help colds. One is virus, the other is bacterial. Also, yes, get a flu shot, but keep in mind that you may still get a flu as the shot targets the "best guess" of which strain/s are going to be prevalent and you may catch something else.

Our flue season has been the worst. I really hope you guys don't get what we had here.

I've had the flue about 4 times this season. I say about because as I got better I got the next one so I'm not really sure. Each time different symptoms. The last one about three weeks ago... Aches and pains like really BAD. No runny nose or chest cough but I was so sick I thought I had food poisoning. I've never been that bad ever. Raging temperature up and down with no letup. Right now I'm not 100% but I think I'm on the mend although my short term memory is gone. I get tired real easy and I'm having difficulties getting a good night sleep.

If you can get your flue shot ASAP.

My son is sick right now and he's about 20 days off school in the last 4 months. He has a temperature and no energy. Aches and pains but no runny nose but a persistent dry cough.

Not unless someone is trying to push through another really expensive health insurance tax.
They may even bring back the swine flu scam, that worked well for them last time.
