I know that use to be true, and they didn't insure sports cars, got burned by them back in the 80s, today, don't know, as I have never looked back..

Gecko buys and donates radar units to the PD.....fuuuckkk them .

Only one claim in the past 20 years. Spun my 930 (after lowering my R&P) and smacked my lower valance 6 or 7 years ago. Now it is with Grundy. Nothing else on the cars or the house. Clean driving record because I was always lucky enough to go to traffic school (suffered a 16 hour traffic school just to keep my record clean) or fought them off in court.

Milt,

All business related stuff is separated from our personal vehicle and home coverage.

GEICO seems to be ok with most of you guys? As for the cars, I really don't care about it much, but if something happends to the house, I want to make sure the insurance will be there for me. Last thing I need to hear is this or that is exempted or such and such a thing will be prorated. I am sure they are all pull that crap on me, but some are better then others, right?

Jeff

The radar BS is no joke?

Ummm, been a long time documented thing. But the caveman, and the other crap makes me cringe.

I've had Geico since 1977, when I first started working for Fed Govt. As someone else said, back then you had to be either military or fed employee, not the case since Warren Buffet bought the company.

In that time, I have had 4 accidents someone else's fault, 1 that was my fault, 1 theft of radio and associated damage, and 1 stupid accident backing into a tree. :( Oh, and they sent a flatbed to pick up the Porsche when it died by the side of the road the first month I got it. :)

They were always easy to deal with, use a decent bodyshop here in Augusta, and the rates are neither highest or lowest. They have never said anything about the radar detector and neither have I.

They currently insure my Maserati and also did my 911 until I moved to an agreed value insurance policy with Leland-West. They have also insured all of my past Porsches. Zero issues with sports cars.

We've had them for about 10 years. Best phone service that I've ever received from a company, bar none. Because of my continual car swapping we get to call them often, I always get through with no hold time and receive an english speaking American that quickly helps us. We had one hail claim on my 540i and used their roadside assistance once, both were totally painless and had no effect on rates. Highly recommended.

A friend of mine and his wife have Wawaneesa. Yes, they're cheep, but if you need to make a claim, may Dog have mercy on your soul. They don't have real claims adjusters, just a roving band of mercenaries that show up approximately when they damn well feel like it, which could be anywhere from a week to when the sun collapses into a lump of coal the size of a basketball. He puts up with because he's a cheapskate.

I have my 911 on Geico. I've been hit twice... one was hit and run, one was an uninsured motorist. No problems filing claims for either one.
My only complaint is that glass is covered under my comprehensive deductible.

I seem to recall being offered a lower glass specific deductible, but it was more money.

Inexpensive, easy to deal with, prompt claims service. Yes you have to pay the difference if you want anything other than aftermarket parts but I've heard this is getting more common as ins cos look for new and creative ways to screw people out of claims - including using "betterment" charges.

For example, I had to have a mirror replaced - there was a used (junkyard) one that they agreed to put on. I also had the option to use a new / OE one but I'd have paid the difference in cost since the insurance only intended to "make me whole" by replacing the damaged mirror off of my used car with a used mirror. A new mirror would have been making it better and therefore subject to a price differential to reimburse them for the "betterment".

Progressive was FAR worse in this regard, BTW but afaik they're all starting to do it. I can't imagine any worse insult to injury than being handed a bill after writing the check to cover the deductible when picking up your car after an accident, but there ya go. Ain't corporatism grand?

Im am almost sure AAA is doing the same thing to their clients. If they aren't, I am not sure how they survive in this dog eat dog business. They must, right? anyone with experience on their claim with AAA?

I've been insured by Geicko for thirteen years and have had a very positive and helpful relationship with them. They recently paid for my rock chip damaged Boxster to be stripped down, all dents removed completely repainted, new OEM front bumper and new OEM wind shield. The claims adjuster was very friendly and helpful. He worked with the body shop to get the job done right. My rates have gone up but by only a few dollars per year. They are still below any other insurance company (I checked rates) except the one AARP recommends and they have a terrible history. I recommend Geicko without hesitation.

Since you are in Californie, have you checked with Wawenesa? We had that until the policy expired and we couldn't renew in Wisconsin. I hit a deer and they were pleasant enough to deal with. Sent an adjuster quickly and had it fixed right at a friends body shop.

Ca, Wis, what's the difference? I am more concern with the home insurance. I am in a high fire area.

Just out of curiosity, how did you approach them to get this done? I have some failing clearcoat (done by the PO) which I would love to have fixed.

They don't insure outside of California. American Family doesn't do California or Florida, or they didn't 10 years ago.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this has been very helpful as I am seriously thinking about a switch to Geico, thanks for the positive comments (especially if there is a claim and customer service).

red-beard 01-02-2019 10:26 AM

I have AAA for my car and home. The combined policies lead to quite a bit of savings. The Auto Policy is a bit cheaper than what we had, but the home insurance is about 1/2 of what we were paying.

Claims - no issues.

MRM 01-02-2019 10:33 AM

Geico, Progressive and AAA have identical business models and occupy the exact same space in the insurance industry. They handle claims the same way and are organized the same way. They are highly centralized and automated. They advertise nationally and compete on price. They make pennies on the dollar but they have huge bases, so they stay profitable. As long as you're getting the exact same coverage, apples to apples, there's no reason not to switch from one to the other based on price.
