Best way to move an iphone 4 32 GB Black
I have just upgraded to an iphone 5 and want to move (sell) my iphone 4 and looking for recommendations on best way to move it with the least amount of hassle. It's black 32 GB with no scratches. It's been in an Otterbox Defender case since purchased. It is now off contract (ATT) and I have erased all content on the phone. Obviously, the options are Ebay, Craigs List or a service like Gazelle or one of the other buying services. It has not been jailbroken and not unlocked at this point. Should I try to get it unlocked or let the buyer do that?
I'm thinking of $250 (OBO) plus shipping and I would throw in the Otterbox case. It would be shipped in the original box with the charging cord and wall outlet attachment. No scratches on face or back and basically looks in new condition. Suppose the ear buds can be included but not sure anyone wants them after being in my ears. ![]() Any recommendations, guidance or interest here?? |

Get it unlocked by ATT. Takes a week now as they do it by email. There is no perfect jailbreak for iOS 6 yet so if it is updated ATT is the only way to unlock it. Most people who want the phone will need it unlocked.
Price it right and put on CL. You should be able to sell it quick. CL is for bargain hunters, to get top dollar ebay would be best. The internet buy back companies will low ball you, thats how they make money. I sold a beat up 3GS on CL for $130 a few weeks ago with an Otterbox thrown in as well.

Keep in mind ATT is offering the 4 for $1, and 4S for $99 with a 2 year contract.
If you just want it gone, I would search CL for what they are currently offered for, and undercut them by $10 Last edited by emcon5; 10-02-2012 at 08:20 AM.. |

4 or 4S? I might be interested in a 4S... Unlocked or not, don't care (Straight Talk is compatible with AT&T). I'm not interested in what I can get with a 2-year contract. I'll never sign another one.

Dear Mr. Widgeon,
We are intellectual property counsel for Apple Corporation (AAPL). It has come to our attention that your iPhone(TM) for-sale advertisement has several features that appear to be claimed by our client's patent (enclosed). Our client has advised us that you enjoy a long-standing reputation in the industry as a reputable and conscientious party. Thus, we presume you were unaware of the existence of our client's patent. However, we believed it prudent for you to be aware of the patent as soon as we learned of this situation. From a preliminary review, we are inclined to believe the advertisement infringes on the patent claims. However, we would appreciate your thoughts on this matter. Please feel free to contact us at your convenience, we look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Dewey, Cheatham, & Howe ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Patent US1313666 METHOD OF SELLING AN IPHONE ....

No I did not unlock it as the buyer uses AT&T. But what joe describes above is how you can get it done. You can actually submit the request online on AT&T's website.

Paul,
Big thing is that if they do nothing in a week, call them back. They fiddle-fussed around for 3 weeks and did nothing. I finally called and they gave me the unlock code over the phone...

Thanks Joe, I'll plan for the worst and hope for the best. We'll give them a week.

Ok, heard from ATT and did the restore on the iPhone. It restored it to my backed up information, now do I do a reset on the phone to actually clear out all the pics and other data.
How do I know if it is actually unlocked. Thanks in advance. |

Plug into iTunes.
Click on phone under devices on left. Click restore. When given the choice choose 'restore as new phone.' When complete a popup saying your phone is now unlocked will appear on iTunes. Requires a valid active SIM card to work. If phone says no service it will not unlock. If you already had AT&T shut it off it will not unlock until new active sim is installed. |
