GMPP Major Guard opinions

My wife drives a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox that will be out of warranty 11/30/12. I'm looking at the GM Protection Plan Major Guard coverage. It must be purchased before the 3/36 warranty expires. I can get $0 deductible 48 month/32K miles coverage for $1200. I suspect that one failure of a non-power train item like the electric steering rack, ABS, or one of the control modules would probably come close to covering that $1200.

I never purchase extended warranties, but I fear this car has a high potential for expensive repairs. I've only had a high pressure fuel pump fail up to now, but who knows what may happen in the future.

We're happy with the car and I don't see replacing it in the next 4 years. Will GM even be around for another 4 years to make good on this?

It appears to me that it would be in my best interest to wait until my GM 3/36 month warranty is almost expired, as the 48/32 coverage starts from the date/mileage when you buy it.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

I have bought the GMPP and you better read the fine print cause in my case the actuator or whatever is called to engage the 4x4 on the Trailblazer is excluded and guess what broke??
If you are positive you're going to keep the car then I guess you have an excuse although if nothing has broken in 3 years probably you got a good car that will need little to no repairs.

I'm looking at the brochure and it actually says "Front differential actuator" as a covered item. Maybe different in Canada? The "not covered" list doesn't have anything that I would consider a red flag item.

I had a similar issue with my 1989 Honda Prelude with 4 Wheel Steering. I bought the extended warranty specifically to cover the 4WS. I even told the sales person this was the ONLY reason I was buying it. Guess what wasn't covered?
