Bicycle gift, 25+ YO Somec road bike restoration thread....

Somec is a limited edition road bike. Back in the day I ran a bike shop and I got him a deal as the owner of the shop couldn't sell it as it was a little hioty toity for the area even though it was a work of art. Probably around 1984ish.....

It WAS all Campagnola and will need some work as it has been wall art for 10+ years. Probably wheels as it came with sew ups and were replaced with low end clinchers.

Anyways, I will restore it and will be needing parts. It has some old, first generation Look pedals. I use Speedplay on my LeMond so those Looks have to go....

I have attached a pic of my current Speedplay pedals, they are also on the old side....anyone know what Speedplay pedals I need for the cleats I have?

I'll post pics of the bike when I get it....will need some wheels if someone has a nice set of clinchers with Campy hubs gathering dust.

Ahhhh. Flashbacks. I worked and managed bike shops most of the 90s. Spent a year as a sales rep and Speedplay was one of my companies. Those look like the early X/1s and X/2s.

Thanks....been cruising Craig's list. I agree with you on the X series. I'm thinking Titanium X/1 models.

You wouldn't have a set of X/1s of any flavor laying around would you? Chrome moly, S/S, Ti or whatever?

Hey Mike, are you back in town near the northern part of the city near Glendale or Pasadena? go and have a talk with Steve at OPen Road in Pasadena on Sierra Marde. Tell him Jeff, the contractor, send you. he'll know who I am. He's got some pedals like that hanging around. Be prepare to deal with his funky personality. Really good guy, just funky. I sent people in there who will buy and blink was the driving factor, but Steve will talk them out of a sale. If not, I can ask him for you. He owes me big time for a bunch of things I did for him over the years.

I'll go up in the attic tomorrow but I don't think I have any Speedplay stuff left. Sold off most of the stuff that was worth anything. I tried to like Speedplays but could never get over the tensionless float. Still a couple of boxes i can look through. I do have a set of vintage Saturne sew-up rims waitng for a project that'll probably never happen.

I like the float due to my knees getting older than I am....

Man, you old guys, I am telling you.

I still ride black fix Look cleats, but I did get a pair of Speedplay with the adj. float pedals and have yet put that on my bike. No time and too lazy is more like it. I think I would like a little float on my left foot.

Call em' first and see if has any. Steve know exactly where everything is. The place is a siht mess with lot of great stuff all around.

I wanted this so bad back in the dayhttp://images.cloud.worthpoint.com/wpimages/images/images1/1/0709/04/1_aa0bbb7ec5dbbe83335756cdfa902528.jpg

Nice looking bike there Mike. Typ. paint job of the mid to late 80s. I really like those 8 spd shifters. They just work and work, even after a few crashes. Absolutely bomb proof.

Lets try this again. I wanted everything on thing except for that stupid saddle and that big old tree climbing freewheel.

No dice on Speedplay pedals or parts.

I dig the Scott bars with the turn ins. Rode a many a mile with a set of those.

The brake adjuster looks wrong.....

I'm thinking the rubber/cup combo should be above the arm.....
