Do you like your bank?

Disclaimer: I know we have talked about this before but a quick search of the form came up empty.

Anyone here actually happy with the service they get from their brick and mortar bank?

Before you all pile on with "join a credit union" I am already looking into that, however I already do some financing with USAA and not sure a CU can beat them.

Yes I am old school and do like having a building I can walk into and talk to a real person.

I was with Genfed that got taken by Calfed that got taken by Citibank, out of just plain laziness still have my main account with them.

My plan is to consolidate my accounts/credit cards, between wife and I we have at least six accounts, would like to get to half of that.

So anyone working with a bank they like? Or is that an oxymoron?

Thanks in advance

Umpqua Bank...dunno if they have a branch in Portland. We're quite happy with them and the service. Both Cindy & I greeted by name when we walk in. But this is a small town we live in...

I love USAA, but that does not answer your question. I have no need for a "brick and mortar".

No. I've worked with three in my life, they all have been mediocre. My current bank (KS chain) provides average service, but makes withdrawing more than a few thousand in cash seem like I'm breaking the law. Enough so that I've considered keeping it somewhere secure on my own. It's my damn money, don't question me on my usage of it!

My credit union is the opposite. I deposited a check for $4000 last week and it was a 20 minute affair requiring management approval. I find it hard to believe that this is a large sum of money to deposit. Again, maybe I should just keep it under my mattress.

Wells Fargo Bank

I have been with Wells for many years, in CA, now in TX. I find them to be first class in all their operations. I would recommend you look into their branches if they are available to you.
If you look back on the loan mess, they were pretty much not involved in all of that, and are healthy today.

This in my problem, I have dealt with Citi and Chase and they act like they are doing you a favor by letting them handle your money... wife is with US bank, I am ambivalent with them most because I have had limited exposure.

Daughter is in Eugene and we are in Los Angeles so looking for a bank that has branches all over the states... or at least the west coast.

Thanks again,

Yup. When dealing in cash I usually walk out borderline irate. The only reason I don't switch is that I suspect they all suck.

Yes, very happy, both fairly small banks.

Bank of the West for business
Eldorado Savings for personal

B of A is terrible, worse than that even

One thing that I love about the Credit unions is the shared branches. I can be banking in another state and locate a shared branch that I can walk into and use hassle free. I am usually not close to my CU so this is a big +1 for me.

I like mine (small town bank). Not the same bank it was before the economy took a dump though.
Used to just go up stairs tell them what i want (loan wise) and we'd throw some figures around
and at the end he'd turn a contract around and say sign here. Now i've got to fill out all kinds of BS paperwork, copies of tax forms, etc.
Never once had a problem with them.

I've been using Wells Fargo for years. Very happy with them. Really powerful website that gives you access to everything in one place. We've had snafus over the years, but it was always sorted to our satisfaction.

Yes. First Citizens Bank. Started in Johnston county NC where I live. NEVER a problem. Friendly and accurate with your funds. Stock price around 165. Compare that to BoA. There are reasons.

I'm with SunTrust. Been with them for years. Their asset management, think stock brokers, suck. I actually call them idiot experts. Tried to deposit a rather large check into my existing stock account and they couldn't make it happen. Told them no problem, there was a Smith Barney just down the street. Still, SunTrust does pretty darn good with the banking.
I wouldn't touch Wells Fargo. Various reasons but the most recent one is they would not cash a check that was drawn on their customer (business account) and the business was literally across the street. Walking distance. And the check was good.
I have a good local bank but they close on Wednesday afternoons. When I wanted to go to the bank for one reason or another it was always on a Wednesday afternoon. Drove me nuts. I do have our Volunteer Fire Dept there.

Wells is OK if you have a good branch/advisor, especially if you're small biz. If you've got a bad one, they're terrible.

They're also better the more you've got in the bank. I've spent time living check to check (ah, the glorious income of a photographer), and Wells likes to rearrange your deposits so that charges will hit first and overdraft you - they'll actually pull stuff you've seen post on your statement, sit on it for a few days, and put it back.

If you're not broke that's not so much of an issue, though.

Santa Clara Valley Bank. 3 branches, Fillmore, Santa Paula and Valencia. Great personal service, way above and beyond what you'd find at a major bank. Not open on Saturdays, but you can't have everything.
