Good thing Giants had home field for this game. All 3 of Panda's HR would have been fly ball outs in Tiger Stadium (Comerica Park)....

Really? The 3rd one went 422 feet. AT&T had the fewest homers in the majors.

Edit- I just checked and straightaway center is 422 feet. That's a big park. The Tiger's home run wouldn't have been one either. I guess the Giants would have won 4-1.

Is a california guy aloud to cheer on the Tigers? I am.

Went to the playoffs in Detroit last year and fell in love with that city.

Go Tigers.

I think that much of that is the Giants style of "small ball" play. Singles and excellent base speed. No need to pound them out.

No, that is due to the layout of the park and the fact they play pretty much half of their games at night.Marine layer kills balls. I have seen balls hit there, especially to the gaps, that would go out of most yards. The fewest Hr's hit includes the opponents too, many of whom do not play small ball.
The Tiger corner infielders do not like to come in on balls,as evidenced by the ball that hit the bag.Cabrera charges that ball, and gets it on a big hop ,different story.
The key will be to make the "big guys" on the corners move their feet, and come in to chase balls and make plays off balance. Young in left field is going to kill the Tigers with his defense.

It's not that the infielders don't like to come in..they can't!! LOL Too big and heavy. Though to be honest, Cabrera has done remarkably well considering he had to learn to be a 3rd baseman again. Fielder is a garbage 1st baseman. Period. Too short.

Delmon is a trainwreck for defense. Which is why he's been a DH. Having no DH in the playoffs for away games definitely hurts the Tigers.

Yeah that is why I put "big" in parentheses.
I have never been to Comerica, does it play big or small? or is that dependent on time of day?
I am watching the game on dvr and like to watch the slow motion stuff.
Sandoval has put backspin on his hr's,let the pitcher supply the power, and square the ball up.
Another thing I noticed is that Posey is looking at each hitter's feet, looking to get a clue to the approach.

It always plays HUGE. Especially the gap/center field. Thank goodness we have Jackson (and previously Granderson) with their tremendous speed to get to some of the balls (fly balls even) that are hit there. To get the wind to push a ball out of the park, it has to be hit REALLY high.

I tell ya...if Cabrera played in a smaller park, he'd easily hit 50 HR every year. You can't believe the number of 410-415 fly ball outs.

The Tigers handle right hand pithching better than left handers,so they get another left hander tommorow.
Look for Crawford and Belt to make good contributions, both took good AB's tonight.Stay hot Scoots, and hopefully Sandoval increase his trade value with a good series.

If the gaps play big, then hit the ball"small".A ball down in the strike zone, hit with topspin, has a better chance of scoring runs. Offensively,I always thought a double was more productive than a HR.

Interesting theory. Isn't it true that the hitter of the double sometimes gets stranded there? And there may be nobody on base when the double is hit. Doubles don't always produce a run. Home runs do every time.

Anyway, because of the nature of AT&T Park, the Giants built a team around pitching, speed, and good fielding, with less emphasis on power. It's worked for them. Detroit seems to rely more on power, which is curious, given the size of their ball park.

Well if there is somebody standing on second base, you put more pressure on the defense, the runner is again in scoring position,,so the pitcher is working out of the stretch, and the next hitter comes up and knows he doesn't have to hit the ball out of the yard,so he can take a better, more patient at bat. The home run, especially one hit against the Dodgers,is a beautiful thing, but guys start to chase pitches out of the zone.Give me gap to gap line drives all day

I would not have given Zito a fighting chance against Verlander. The Tigers have trouble with lefties as has been noted and it showed last nite. Lets play 7.

You're crazy! Give me home runs all day. Actually, you make goods points. Either is good, as long as a Giant hits it.

Man, you hate to see something like that. When they went out to check on him he was pale and diaphoretic, tough dude.

On a lighter note is Max Sherzer from Australia?
