I've had food poisoning once, and it was from a KFC. Otherwise, my tummy has behaved, despite my eating anything I can get my hands on, anywhere I can go, which parenthetically is why I post on the weight loss thread.
My theory is that exposure to dubious food is good for you. When I was a little kid, I lived in Taiwan, where my GI tract was exposed to all sorts of stuff, then we lived in Europe and my GI tract got more exposure (rural France in the 1970s didn't have an excessive amount of food hygiene), later I spent a lot of time in Baja eating and drinking the local stuff. Finally, my family didn't think refrigeration was necessary, if you were only talking about 3 or 4 days. Just leave it out on the counter. More convenient to snack later. I still do that, my family now is horrified, but I think all this exposure and abuse is good for your system. |
In Toronto with my customer wining & dining a bunch of Ford folks. I had never eaten oysters but figured when in Rome. Next morning during the decent into Boston I start getting queazy. The same crap coming out both ends for two days. OMG ill. If someone were to tell me right now they'd break my arm or I would go through that again, bring on Guido.

Probably the pasta dish, I have drank some pretty old tea and have never had issues.
I hate to waste food, last week my freezer tripped a breaker so by the time I realized it all the food had defrosted I fired up the grill and cooked everything then froze it again. No issues yet (knock, knock, knock). I tested the burgers on the kids and they seem fine. Sickest I have ever been was a combination of fried clams and car sickness it was in the back of my dads V/W on a family trip in 1976, going back home to New York from a fair in Massachusetts or Maine, Seals and Crofts on the 8 track, windows open, luckily my dad would stop frequently as we were all sick. |
Just woke up from another nap, 11am here and I feel beat. I need to walk down the street and move my car so it doesn't get a ticket, I just can't do it.
Times like this, it sucks being single. On the other hand, I would not want to put someone else through witnessing this. I seriously felt sorry for my neighbors having to hear me violently puke and retch. :( It's funny how everyone can remember exactly when and where they got FP. A couple of times, I've asked someone if they've ever had it. If they say, "I'm not sure", I tell them that they haven't had it. First time was from a taco stand in Encinitas in the '80s, driving down to LaJolla to hang with Dad and family friends. It freaked them out. Someone falling ill and vomiting is one thing, retching one's brains out for hours is entirely another. Second time was in 2005 while driving from New England to Montreal for F1. We stopped in what was actually a beautiful restaurant in Montpelier, VT. I had a steak which was delicious. Two of the women ordered oysters, a half dozen to an order. They raved about how good they were, so I ate two, one from each bowl. I got the bad oyster. No one else get sick and I spent the night and next day in the bathroom of the B&B we stayed in. What an awful trip. It was also east coast hot and humid, I wanted to die. I'll never eat another oyster or shell fish again in my life. Third time from a tuna sandwich from a place I still go, really great gourmet sandwich place. Just bad luck. Haven't had the tuna since. And today. :( |
Just reading this thread makes me feel not so good, boss.
Such vivid details.... thank you for sharing! _ |

i forgot the other time: when i was eight years old, i ate two fish filet sandwiches from mcdonalds. my mom made a snarky comment about me being a glutton. a couple of hours later i was projectile vomiting. somehow, i made it to the toilet. mostly. anyway, i've never had fish filet sandwich from mcdonalds since, and i LOVED those things.

My worst to date was due to a post-dated salami sandwich on a TWA flight (I guess this gives you an idea of the time frame). We landed, and I ran for the airport restroom. It was not pretty. Having to choose which orifice gets aimed at the toilet is not a decision to take lightly.
The limo driver (airport-->home) is probably still cursing his dispatcher to this day. Sleep and fluids are about all you can do. |

30 years later and I am still haunted by the memory.

there is a LOT more food poisoning out there than most people know - many cases of "24 hr flu" are actually food poisoning

I called the health department and they later reported back that they'd had no other reports of problems from that restaurant that night. My wife and I had eaten the same foods all day so I figured the exposure had to have happened there. After some consideration I think I figured out what happened. Spicy food had my nose dripping like a faucet. Went to the restroom and blew my nose using toilet paper. I'm guessing that in the process, I was infected by a little e-coli from the stall's prior customer. If only I'd known that dinner was going to be a rental... I'd have had that second basket of chips! |
One pint of coffee flavored ice cream wrecked the one weekend I would have had off in Bangkok in six weeks.
Rest of the crew went to the beach. I found the quickest route from bed to toilet. Farthest 8 feet I have had to travel. |
First time was from a Arbys cheddar melt 2003, second time was a few months into my Iraq tour 2005, and the last time was a few weeks home after Iraq 2006. The last one required a stay in the Hospital. Wife still reminds me of when I **** my pants in the bed...;)

Corn dog from the food court in the Staten Island mall when I was 20. I was standing in my kitchen, next thing i know, i cramp up head started spinning and I fell over and puked all over my self. Spent the next hour sittin on the bowl while pukin in the bathtub. Finally, I made my gf take me to the ER. Never felt anything like it. Was like Satan hosting a mosh pit in my stomach. I remember telling her to drive into a pole to kill me. When i got to the ER they made me drink some green crap and about 4 cups of charcoal. They were going to admit me, I was so bad.
I dont think i have ever felt anything worse in my life. I figured that corn dog was payback for what i put my parents through. :D |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif The one in Iraq, were you at least on the base? Being out in the battlefield when it strikes would count as one of my ultimate nightmare scenarios. |
