doom and gloom prepper..not ammo, what about batteries?

collectively, we appear to be armed and ammo'd to the friggen GILLS!! we are ready for RED DAWN..

but what about darkness? how many batteries are we storing? you keeping them frozen, refridged? or just in a cool dark place?

i have about 6 boxes of Surefire CR123 batteries, but my regular alkaline supply is woefully low.

tips? plans?

A fresh water supply will be worth a fortune if the SHTF. That's one major reason I'm never giving up the land I presently own (two good-quality wells). Ammo, plantable land with decent sunlight exposure and a forest full of potential firewood right out the back yard. Yes it would suck if it ever came to that but if it did... I'd be okay. I don't think I'd worry about batteries too much. I do have a few solar chargers & device power-ers that create enough limited DC to enjoy a few "modern" comforts. Battery technology stinks - I hate keeping more onhand than a couple years' worth.

You may want to stock up on propane tanks. My folks were just allowed to move back into their house in NJ, but are told it will be several months at least before gas is turned back on. That's how all their appliances run. And it's cold outside, baby. Now they're buying space heaters to keep the house warm and an electric stove for cooking. Tksgiving and Xmas dinners are gonna be a challenge. I have a 10k gal. pool and the solar panels on my roof will be going online any day now. I am low on Surefire batteries, though.

I understand the "prepper mentality" but I'm convinced that no matter what you stockpile, you'll inevaitably need something you don't have and can't make. We are too interdependent to be self-sufficient, we can try and make some progress, but we still are tied to infrastructure...

I have six, 100# propane tanks. I have a couple of propane space heaters (the ventless ones) that I could use - currently they're in the garage. I also have a gas stove/oven so I don't really use the stuff all that fast. I did notice when I bought them that they now have a 12 year lifespan - they're date stamped and past the expiration date nobody will refill them (at least they're not supposed to). The sale value of the tanks decreases as they age, obviously.

At my current age, I'm not so sure I'd want to survive a total collapse into anarchy.

Enzo1,
Great question! I just bought some that seem ok. They are not great. I would love to hear opinions.
