Very sad and from my perspective, completely unnecessary.

Someone around here just got killed by a pitbull recently as well.
I don't trust them at all, and would shoot one that was unleashed without hesitation if it so much as growled at me. Last edited by m21sniper; 05-28-2010 at 01:22 PM.. |

It is not the dog breed, it is the owner.

Cant figure out why some guys think having a tough dog is more important than having a child that is alive.
Maybe it's a cultural thing? |

It is 100% up to the owner to teach a dog that all humans are the pack leader. This was the first hit from Google about killer dogs. DOG BITE LAW - Statistics about dog bites in the USA and elsewhere

Our first family dog was Ryker. Handsome as all get out and very loyal - to a fault. Could not be trusted with people and animals. After 16 months of trying I could no longer bear the risk. ![]() Family dog numero dos - say hello to Scout ![]() ![]() |

That's right. Also.....
Greyhounds don't run fast, it's the owner. Golden Retrievers don't swim well, it's the owner. St. Bernard's don't handle the cold well, it's the owner, Sheepdogs don't round things up, it's the owner. Miramars aren't protective, it's the owners. Pitbulls, a dog specifically bred to fight to the death. Turns out inclined to be a bit nippy around kids. Hell, who would have thought??????? ![]()

From the article:
"Nathan was attacked by only one dog but both were taken by city animal control officers and will be quarantined for 10 days before a decision is made on what to do with them, Robertson said" What to do? What to do?!?!?!?!......... I know, we can place it with a better owner, then it'll all be fine.

An actual case where it would be proper for arriving cops to actually shoot a dog on sight, and they don't.
I guess they should have had SWAT pick the dogs up on a "no knock" warrant, the pitbulls would have been executed on the spot. Last edited by m21sniper; 05-28-2010 at 02:10 PM.. |

This
Billy, the voice of reason, who would have thought? There was a time when they were not called "Pit Bulls," they were referred to as "American Pit Bull Terriers" and they were FAR and away the most popular dogs kept as pets in this country(ever see "Our Gang?") They were, and still are, very loyal and protective. They were, and still are excellent family pets. Over time, they were bred for aggressiveness and, in certain groups, used for fighting, kept as status symbols, abused, neglected. You know what the number one breed in animal shelters is? Pit bull and pit bull mix. Problems that occur with any dog are 100% the fault of the owner in every single instance. To think otherwise is akin to blaming kool aid for that Jim Jones mass suicide in Guyana. I know literally hundreds of people with pits and do not know of a single one who had a problem, ever. I happen to know a lot of responsible dog owners.

Time for this to stop. To all of the clueless defenders of pit bulls and other such breeds: the blood is on your hands. This just doesn't make sense to the rest of us anymore.

Already killed two of those hippies
For crying out loud Jeff, they are dogs, people are supposed to be intelligent, dogs are animals. I challenge anyone to show me an instance of a dog attack that cannot be attributed to an irresponsible person.

Stupid ****** people doing stupid things.
I feel for the parents as they have lost a child but thier role in having the dog played a part in this. My son keeps asking for a pet rattlesnake or an anaconda. We would of course keep it in a cage so that it couldn't hurt anyone but once we trained it we could probably let it out to "explore" I suppose. Would this be a good idea? He's really been pretty good this year.

Why not start with the link in the original post above. What did they do that was so horribly wrong and irresponsible? Did they do anything that isn't done by millions of parents and dog owners every day?
