In the county where I live, Cook, Colt AR15's are banned. The ban is rarely if ever enforced. But Rock River LAR15's are completely legal. I feel so much safer.

The Colt is cool but there are also some local options. Aero Precision & Mega Machine make upper & lower receivers, Olympic Arms builds completes. All of them work well so go for what talks to you & leaves budget for ammo.
The Sigs are nice, a little heavier as there are piston not direct impingement. 556 uses AR magazines the 551 doesn't. |

It's a Hogue "over molded" in mid length. Not sure.
