My dad traded a 70 Chevelle ss 454 for one of those piles back in the day.
I found a set of skis in the trash the other day and winter is coming

bought a Trek Fx 7.7 this spring. I like it. Presuming no damage, what is the life expectancy of CF bikes these days?

I have figured you would know where she ended up (well, at least hoped)
I think the "Bubble" would be cool.

Finally got a bike that might be worthy of posting. It is a 2006 Gary Fisher Paragon. I only rode it for a few blocks on a test ride and I was amazed how much different the 29" wheels were. I felt really high and top heavy. I hope I get used to it quickly. Now I need to figure out what else I need. I know I need shoes.

Fix the quick release lever positions first . Did you get the fork pump? There's a fitting on the top and bottom of the left leg that should be aired up per the rider weight sticker on the fork.

That's good. I'm "full-figured" and 50 so a big failure while riding could well result in big problems that could make for long recovery. Thanks!

Love just love carbon bikes. I always had one or more in the past 20 years. I started with a Look frame. Raced and trained on it for about 6-7 years and beat the hell out of it. I am not nice to my equip. That bonded frame started to come apart at the head tube after that. I had some good friends in the industry so it got sent back to the Look factory. I am not sure if they gave me a new one of it was repaired. All I know was that it look brand new when I got it back some time later. Went out and beat on it some more. I finally gave it to someone who wanted to start riding.

One advice on carbon is that don't spend crazy money on a cheap or super light expensive frame. The lighter, the more it suffers from rigidity so its a weaker frame compare to a slightly heavier one. I ride a Time frame, RXRS Ulteam. Its a heck of a frame, stiff where it counts and its very comfortable and alive. 50s coming around the corner for me too, breaking something is no longer fun. I had a broken collar bone and three ribs early this year. It put me out of commission for a few weeks. Carbon frames should be fine and it will last a long time, that's if you don't crash it. Mine has survive some good one and they do fine without any issues.

I have a carbon frame, but carbon handle bars scare me; I had a set once and it started to get squeezed at the clamp- just takes a crack or large abrasion to fail, just not worth the risk on a control surface.

I am riding a set of carbon bars and a Time carbon stem for the first time in my life. It was a gift, so Its on there for now. I like alloy bars and stem best for that very same reason, but I think modern carbon bars are pretty safe. Tell you the truth, I can't tell the difference at all.

Hey Intake! (or anyone else...)
I pulled these out of my bike parts drawer today. They are 165mm.
They are circa 1985ish'. What Kind of campy are they? Can you tell? I think I'm gonna go sell on fleabay. I'd offer them here- but I don't think anyone wants 165.

Thanks,
Ron

that's not 85, but later like late 90s. Might be super record?
