There are more racing then ever out here in socal but I have not been one in a very, very long time. We even have a world class track. The 84 Olympic track got ripped out and they built a new indoor wooden one. There are lots more people riding and training rides are all over place. We have some serious training rides 4 days out of the week if you want to get beat up and that is just 15-20 miles within my local area. I am not sure about closing down an entire downtown area, but we do have an ares of a couple miles closed off for crits. We do have a few pro level stages races our here as well. Unlike the old days, we didn't race every weekends, but only 6-7 times during the season.

We did have tracking racing back then every Friday or was it Saturday evenings. It was the 68 Olympic trials and Nationals. Concrete track, an old one but it was too much fun and I only did it for a couple years.

Take your bikes and ride in next year's Wichita Falls Hotter'n Hell Hundred. They are expecting 13,000 riders this year. Expected high of 104.

So You Got Hit by a Car—Here's The Part Nobody Talks About

Some good advice in this video about what to do when you, or someone that you are with, should do in the event of being hit by a car.

That's exactly why I posted it! An engineering scratch your head type thing!

In other news, I am humbled. I THOUGHT I was a rider. 100 mile mtb races and such. Bigger rides for bigger fish would be something like Leadville or Unbound.

Oh no, YT pulled me down the rabbithole of the Silk Road race. If you get bored, here's the video,

It is a dreamland, and culturally fascinating.

and here's the FB link, scrolling through has some of the most beautiful pics I've ever seen.

Maybe next year!

Byron, what's that twin top tube white bike in the rafters? A haro?

This was my bucket list ride in 2003. This includes a pedal by Mt. Everest base camp.

Life got busy. I wrote it off when my leg got crushed in 2006. In 2003, one was encouraged to enter China illegally, and sneak through the border crossings early in the morning to avoid detection by the sleeping guards, go into Tibet and cruise right through, descending the largest downhill on the planet into India, and hopefully not get mugged. That's a little too much excitement for me. I'm in it for relaxation, not international drama. With trips like this 20 years later, perhaps I should pencil it back in. It is a bucket list item after all!!!!

Picked up a set of Hunt 40mm deep 25 internal width gravel rims last week. Mounted with RH 44mm tires. I run them 20-30 psi with tubolito tubes. Perfect for gravel here. This frees up an older Pacenti rimset for use for 28mm tires, which with a 21mm internal rim width, lets them plump out to 29-30mm (compared to my 13mm 16mm? internal rim width mavic road wheels- which squeezes the 28mm tires to 26mm). The 29mm is perfect for the imperfect road here.

Both rimsets are about 1400g. Both tiresets are lighter than unicorn farts. The pacenti's have never had one spoke touched in 6 years. The new hunts are fun and have an aero hum. With about 100 miles into them, all smiles.

Now I've got a road and gravel quick change wheelset. My road bikes are still fastest, but I'm planning a bike trip based around the pacenti/28mm combo on the gravel bike! The 28's on the pacenti's I run around 60 psi and are smooth as butter! )Compared to about 75- 80lbs for the mavic ssc rims- much more compliant, and lighter.
