Rampside Corvairs, what do you all know?
I have the opportunity to buy one of these complete, running with a decent paint job and manual trans for next to nothing. Figured it might be a fun winter project to flip in the summer.
It's an odd looking thing, but I kinda like it. two tone, white and blue (like the one in the picture, just rougher). Realistically, what are these things worth all fixed up? ![]()

8-10 grand in excellent condition. Those are a ton of fun. Easy to work on. Great econo errand runner. I've been looking for one of those for my next corvair project.

Carb kits are inexpensive and easy to find and install. Suspension parts are about the same.

Very cool. If it runs and goes down the road, I would give $5000.

If you do pull the trigger, please install some crash bars/cage in front. Your lower legs are completely unprotected, positioned in front of the front axle. Bill K

Being a Corvair owner since the early 70's, I can say go for it! Just make sure it IS a Rampside instead of a Loadside. Besides Clark's, my favorite parts supplier is CORVAIR UNDERGROUND Inc Much more laid back...I can also put you in touch with other suppliers if you need them. Also, a great forum is Welcome to the official Virtual Vairs website! and the Corsa website Welcome to the Corvair Society of America!
Let me know if I can assist you in any way.

Also, after noting your location, I would HIGHLY suggest Corvair Underground. Lon & his shop are in Dundee, OR, and he also has vehicles for sale, NOS, repro and used parts. A fellow with a heart of gold, helped me out with great deals and advice over the years.

If it's an early model (pre-64) give a listen to it at idle with the clutch engaged. If you hear a ticking or knocking sound coming from the engine, it is likely the flywheel coming apart. It isn't a big deal if you catch it early. I've bought a couple of Corvans cheap because the owner said they had a "bad rod" when they just needed a new flywheel.

There is a nice looking Greenbriar on bring a trailer, that I've been trying to post with no luck in getting the pic to come up in the post. Go check it out listed for $12K and change.
As to the front end protection, that is also a deterrent from classic VW vans for me too I thought little of this risk back in the day that I was driving all over the country in my soulful hippie van. This getting mature and cautious really gets in the way of fun. Cheers Richard |
