Black Widow!
This may not be "technical" issue, but it does represent something that could really set your project back.
I'm taking my 3.2 off the engine stand and lowering down onto a floor jack. I notice a spider crawling on top of the muffler. I hit it with some bug spray then fish it out with a screwdriver and put it on my workbench. Sure enough, when I put on the bench I see a perfectly shaped red hourglass on the belly. This is the first Black Widow I have seen since I have lived in Chicago (almost 20 years), and it had to be crawling on my engine. Needless to say, I would rather see a mouse. I hope she was single, no kids! Roger

We are filthy with them here in Tejas - no biggy. Not many folks actiually die unless they are allergic to bee stings. They will make you sick (flu like). We actually started a collection of the buggers, put them in test tubes with rubbing alcohol. Kids like to see them and Ives actually used them in scouts and in grade school projects to educate.

We're infested with them here as well. I spray for them, but still can't pull a garden tool from the shed or a board from my wood storage without seeing a live one.
Blackwidows are VERY shy and RARELY bite humans or dogs. I've shaken them off my arms and never been bit.

Our equivalent is the red back spider. Again , shy and retiring. Unlike the big Sydney funnel web...rears up with dripping fangs

Texas isn't out west! It's in the south.
I have Black Widow spiders all over my yard. I wear gloves when taking out the trash because they like the nooks in the plastic trash and recycling bins. Scott |

I'm originally from IL as well an never saw a black widow before moving down south. Our property is infested with them. I can go out at any given time and find several gravid females. This little beasy was guarding my rear fuel pump.

Better correct this entry on Wikipedia too: Southern United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I can find hundreds more sources but this should be enough for you to get the point. Scott |

Thanks for asking Scott, but after four or five days he was as good as new. South African Boerboels are a hardy breed. The hardest part was taking the damned snake away from him before he could eat it.

Why don't we call it "Southwest" and in the words of the immortal Rodney King, "we can all just get along"

You should have cut off the head and let him eat it! My Doberman went after a big 6' rattlesnake. We got to the snake before she got bit. I am glad she was fast enough to avoid the strikes. The snake skin made a great hat band! Scott |

Wow, I thought folks from the South had hospitality, not hostility.
Craig T, glad your pup was ok! I'm always on the lookout for rattlers here in the Colorado summer...I wouldn't want my Aussie tangling with one. - Craig_D

ha! All those creatures are nothing compared to the vicious "ex"... I lost an entire house to a bite from one of those! Caused me excruciating pain for ten years that cost me over $100k to finally cure...
You sissies and your spiders and snakes! ![]() Curt

Craig,
Did he get any anti-venom? A vet friend told me about a Mastiff that was bitten by a very young rattlesnake and died very quickly. Immature rattlesnakes lack control of the amount of venom they inject. This one must have injected a huge load to kill the dog so quickly. I am glad both of ours did okay! Scott |
