Dumb question
I've gotta ask. "Spoon"??? What does this refer to? I see over and over in OT,
probably you guys are not comparing tea sets or silver ware, right? |
otherwise known as a lead delivery device - IE gun
|
TABS coined the phrase to use as a cover so the feds wouldn't be able to get to his cache info...
|
|
It through me off too, I also had to ask

Here's my dumb question. I blew a fuse at home and tried to reset it at the breaker but it will not reset, what's my next step? Keep in mind that I am a girl without skills on my house and have no man to help. You all are my men and women who know things... and can assist me. Help please. :D

there is a difference between a fuse and a circuit breaker. fuses are either round and screw in, or shaped like a (i cant say it), tube of lipstick and you can pull them out. (please be careful areound this stuff. make sure power is off before changing fuses). a circuit breaker has a switch and can be reset, fuse are replaced. now, i will assume you have a circuit breaker. it depends on what caused the breaker to trip. if you had to many things on the circuit that the breaker feeds, thats no big deal. turn some things off and/or find another room to plug them into. now one breaker can feed several outlets, including the lights in that room. if everything is turned off that the breaker feed, and it trips as soon as you reset it, you have a short. this can cause a fire. if there is a short that caused the breaker to trip, call an electrician. there could also be something plugged in that is shroted causing it to trip, so unplug everything, then reset. (try to limit how much you do this in case there is a wiring problem) |
What were you doing when the breaker tripped?
Had you just started running some electrical device? Vacuum, stove, arc welder, etc? Or had some device just come on? If the breaker will not reset at all, it could be a faulty breaker. Or it could be that the line is still overloaded, or shorted to ground. Is it a standard breaker, or a GFCI breaker? Have you tried swapping it with a breaker of the same rating? |
So while waiting for the PP braintrust, I called an electrician to come out and see what's wrong. I have not added anything to the plugs was just trying to pop some popcorn when it tripped. Now it comes and goes without doing anything.
Sorry about the fuse to breaker comment. I am a blond girl so I can make mistakes when calling one thing something else. Could also be due to stroke I had 9 years ago. I stilll mix up words... Thanks everyone for your input. I hope the electrician can fix it without costing an arm and a leg. |
A standard Square-D breaker from the big box store should cost less than $20.
Can't begin to guess what the service charge will be. |
I was told that it will be free for me to come out but will pay $75 for 1 hr of labor and then whatever the cost is for the breaker fix. The company stated they would work with me on price because I mentioned reading reviews and some claimed they were high priced.

i hate to see woman by themselves and have to call someone. i am always afraid they will get taken advantage of.
as cash ma y be implying, it could just be a weak breaker. they are easy to change, but i even hate getting into electrical panels, and i just wired in a completely new service to my house and garage. i debated on if i should advise you on how to do it, but your life is more important than $100. any neighbors close by that can help? i am always doing stuff for my neighbor. |

Back in 1974 when Sweet Home Alabama was released I was at a dance party in Alabama. As the song came on everyone with a partner went to the dance floor. One Yankee kid asked me "Is that a popular song around here?" That is a dumb question. |
Hi Braintrust, does work to replace a breaker require a permit? The electrician says yes.
|
I guess it could in California, but here in SC - no.
|
It's a bummer. I need the work done but if it requires a permit then I am TSOL until permit is received.
