A few years ago, I started getting phone calls for someone with my same name. I would carry on conversation for a minute or so, trying to figure out who I was talking to, before figuring out it as a wrong number. I got to know quite a bit about the guy with my name by the questions the caller would ask to verify that they had the wrong guy. I found out he was new in town, where he worked, where he had previously lived, etc.
One caller refused to believe I wasn't his friend. The wife answered the phone, he asked for me and the conversation went something like: Him: Who's the chick? Me: That's my wife. Him: (laughing) Oh really, when did that happen? Me: Who is this? Him: (laughing harder) You ass hole, you know who this is. Who's the chick. Me: You have the wrong number. Him: (still laughing) Yeah, right, wrong number. I'll call back later when you can talk. |
I have such an ungodly common name it's not even funny.
Hell my boss and I share the same last name. Whenever we are out at a function and meet clients we always have to say no I am not a son, brother, cousin, illegitimate love child... |
John Jacob JingleHiemer-Schmidt...
( his name is my name, too ) KT |
25 years ago, the treasurer of the jewelry store where I bought my Submariner had the same name. They held up my purchase for a few minutes.

My last name is not common. In fact, most of us date back to a single family which emigrated around 1700 to Pennsylvania/Maryland.
In college, there was another student with the same name, same middle initial, but different middle name. And that BASTARD bounced a bunch of checks! |
I haven't met anyone, but two guys with my name randomly sent me invites on LinkedIn last year. Both from the UK.
Also, I was a bit surprised to find an Italian horror movie named after me! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p6-xwkka1d...er-350x524.jpg Hahaha!:D |
A guy in our local PCA chapter who routinely kicks my ass at autocross has my same name. Same spelling, which is unusual. I bought a bass from him. Funny how life beats the odds regularly.

Guy at the same company I worked at had the same first/last name. He'd get checks meant for me and cash them. What a tool. Who cashes checks not knowing what they are for.

I got a Facebook friend request from another Lee Hines in Australia. He just wanted to say hi.

Ive never had the occasion to meet someone with the same name but several years ago friends were having a party and one of the guys had just bought a new bike. He and another buddy went for a ride and got pulled over by the police. Second buddy didn't have his wallet on him and when asked his name the police arrested him as being wanted for bank robbery. Bike buddy comes back to the party alone and then had to take second buddys wallet (his GF had it in her purse) down to the police station to prove he wasn't the wanted person. Same first, middle and last name, different DOB.

Not me...but I went to school with a George Bush who later moved to Texas. He had a lot of fun making dinner reservations.

My name is pretty uncommon in the USA, in South Africa not so much. I have met someone in Greensboro named David Lucas.
|
Back when there was this thing called a white pages, I counted my name in the Portland phone book. There were 27 of me listed. Not counting the folks who just put down their first initial.
On a related note, I just had a client owned by Bill Smith try to hire another fellow named Bill Smith. Larry |
I need to go to Oz to meet Jim Richards. I hear he can drive Porsches kinda fast.
|
I have never met someone with my name but on two occasions I met someone with my brother's name.
My wife has to go to meetings for her job on a regular basis. If all the top folks are there they have 3 men named Mark and three named Todd. All have different last names, but it makes it a pain to use names in conversation. |
Not really as I am the only one in the country with my full name.
|
Doubtful.
All the people with my last name are decendants of my grandfather. The communists murdered the rest with that surname. |
