GT 40, not for the purist

a friend of mine took delivery of this kit car about eight months ago, he got it from some upper midwest builder, he flew back there to look at them, bought one and got it in typical kit form. Lots of pieces. He did every bit of the work himself in his garage. The only thing that kept it from being done sooner was he needed to sell his 26 T Truck. Once that was gone he bought the motor and transaxel.
He is working some bugs out and will get it painted Gulf colors. He tried to make it as close to original as he could. I think he did a good job.

I LOVE the GT40's. May I ask how much the kit was? It looks like he did a great job.

Do you know who the manufacturer of the kit is?

Over 2 years ago, we were in works to get a complete Factory Five GT40. Sadly, the seller was just too much of a pain to deal with and we had to walk away. Glad your friend is having fun with it and Gulf colors will be great!

Awesome! It could use some sticky tires though!

GT 40 is one of my all time favs. I would be happy with one with a modern engine or more traditional engine.

1) NICE!!

2) Another one in Gulf Livery? Really?

Upper midwest would probably be RCR. I'm fond of the ERA versions personally (stainless steel monocoques) and have an NOS BMW M1 ZF intended for that very purpose...maybe someday... .

Awesome. One of my favorites since I got a Matchbox GT40 back in, oh, 1979 I think.

not sure but "I think" he has about 60k total in it as it is. Webers would have upped the $ a bit. This is planned for driving a lot. He isn't real tall so it's easier for him to sit in than me. I would want the Dan Gurney bump.

That is an RCR. Fran Hall is the owner and his shop is just outside Detroit. BTW, Factory Five doesn't make a GT40. Check out Fran's website and drool over all the cool vehicles he builds Race-Car-Replicas - 586-329-1573. I built one of his GT 40 MK1 like the one above, but with a dual snorkel hood. It was featured in the Fast Five movie and you can see it on Fran's website. I would post some pictures, but Photobucket is not cooperating. I'll try later.

Beautiful car your friend has there!

RCR sounds familiar, here are some pictures when he got it. The T truck is in the background.

Oops, the Roaring Forties was the manufacturer, not Factory Five. Why I remember that name; I don't know.

She was a beauty! Maybe one day I'll get my hands on one.

Gt 40

That's definitely one of Fran's beauties. Here are some pics. As I painted it (well, Ron at Metalmorphis painted it):

Next to my 67 Mustang for scale:

As it was leaving for CA:

When I sold it I asked why they cared more about fit and finish than paint (it was perfect). They said my paint was too shiney and you would see the cast and crew reflected in the paint. I still liked mine better. I also chose the colors based on the spin out video posted above. That less than 1 minute clip was my inspiration throughout the build.

Nice car!! I'd have a tough time putting those faux valve covers on there but I guess when doing a replica anything is fair game!!
