Anyone know how to DIY sound dampen air ducts?

Trying to cut down on the noise transmission via air ducts at my parents house. All metal piping in ceiling mounted vents. Has anyone installed any kind of baffles in the vents? I've done some google searching, and it seems all over the map.

Thanks!

If it's already permanent, etc you'll have a pretty hard time. Lowering the CFM of the fan will help, but will also reduce the efficiency, etc.

You could try a Duct Muffler, but they seem like just a bunch of hot air to me. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Can you use flex duct?

Thermaflex Flexible Duct :: Thermaflex Insulated and Non-Insulated Duct

I sell MK-C...if you can take a section of pipe out on the return side (treated air back to the unit) and run a length of flex duct with a loop in it it'll cut down the noise. These come in 25' length's and you cut to length.

My dad will crap if I even mention flex duct... He had a bad experience with some in one of his office buildings and is very against it.

I was reading online about things that could be put behind the vent or shoved in from there?

Again, I'm trying to cut down on noise external to the AC system that is just being passed through the duct work, not actual noise from the AC unit, its pretty quiet as is...

Thats just ignoring the problem. I'm trying to fix this as much for their benefit as mine. I'm crashing here while I finish school for financial reasons...

Well thats a given for me..

But my dad is partially deaf and likes to watch tv late at night, mom complains the noise keeps her awake... Trying to cut down on the transmitted noise, and its definitely loud near the air duct in her room...

Does the ducting from the furnace do a "T" or something from the TV room to your mom's room?

Maybe you could consider a direct run from the furnace to each room, that way they are not directly connected to each other.

Or run a "T between the bedrooms and isolate the TV room on one run.

Tell your parents to not "do it" while you are in the house.

MEtal ducts? Are they insulated? Insulate it may help a little.
