Would I be crazy to say that I can 100% outdrive any ABS computer?

I've driven racecars (reasonably well you could argue) with and without. I will ALWAYS choose ABS over non-ABS. Why? Because Rain.

I've managed to pull off stuff with ABS i the rain that there's no way in hell I could do without it. 100% convinced.

Outperform ABS? No way. But I've driven many traction/stability control systems that were unpredictable to downright dangerous in the snow. Some degree of wheel spin is often required to maintain forward motion in the snow, and when your ECU cuts all power in the middle of an intersection......yikes. My wife's old 4Runner was the first I've driven, any time it was in 4wd the traction/stability control was off.

Having driven in the snow a little today I have to agree with Fred- In the snow modern passenger car ABS sucks wish it had an off button like an 80's Audi
On a dry racetrack with a 996 cup the ABS is pretty dang awesome

With ABS, one can brake and steer at the same time. Not so with regular brakes. And of course, I'm not going to win a braking contest with a modern 911/996/997. Granted.

And yet, I'm pretty sure I can stop my old 911 in less distance than most of those other cars out there that have ABS. Spec on a 911SC is that it will go from 60 to 0 in about 165 feet. On 1978 tires. I can beat the heck out of that with my Kumhos. Again, the car weighs under 2500 lbs.

I have big reds front, big blacks rear, a 930 master cylinder, bigger than stock RE11s on 8" front and 9" rears, and a lighter than stock Targa. My brakes laugh at me during street driving.

Lots of modern racecars are ABS equipped. I guess that means that either it does a better job, or even racecar drivers nowadays aren't that good at braking.

I have an ABS equipped 944S2 that I track - since I've never had any significant track experience with a non-ABS equipped car, I suspect that I would not fair too well without this driver's aid. That said, ABS has saved my skin a couple of times out on the track...

do you think some ABS systems are better than others? like the guy talking about his truck. a lot of trucks had/have ABS on ly on the rears.
perhaps sampling rates are better, maybe better pumps? even faster acting pumps.

i could also see ABS being a big help if you needed to turn and brake.

the last time i was out driving my 911 kinda hard, i was pushing to the point of a very small split second of inside wheel lock just as i would turn in, coming off the brakes.

Try driving on frozen lake and see how good the ABS is (and how bad you really are).

Yeah I wasn't really thinking about rain. I sit those sessions out usually. (I don't race).
