That video was posted in the "random video" thread earlier today. Totally awesome!

In CA you'd get cited for driving too close to the beach....

About 6 or 8 years ago I was at AVI resort on the colorado river.
A couple of women were floating by in a jet boat and when they tried to start the engine it backfired and there was a small carb fire. No, they apprently did not have a flame arrestor installed.
In later discussions I fould out that one of the girl's boyfriend (the owner) took it off because he was having carburetor problems ealier in the day snd didn't bother to re-install it.
Why do bad things happen to dumb people?

I yelled "start it up, keep cranking" etc but they were too far away and either couldn't hear or didn't understand.
And of course, they evidently did not have a working fire extinguisher on-board.

Anywho, the fire got bigger and bigger until they jumped overboard and swam for it.

Then, the caring bystanders jumped into action.
One by one, other jet boats swooshed by with jetavators all the way up thinking they could simply shoot water on the engine fire and put it out.
They the PWCs joined in. Dozens of em.
By that time I was so disgusted I just shook my head and watched from a distance as the boat floated down stream. I thought about heading out there with a FIRE EXTIGUISHER but knew I'd just get run over by one of the einsteins.
It didn't take long for the well-intentioned idiots to swamp the boat and sink it.

You might think that swamping it was better than letting it burn but it was already so engulfed there wasn't much left of the boat anyway.

Since it's the law that all boats (and PWCs) have fire working extinguishers (and flame arrestors), you'd think that at least half of they actually would have one that works. All they had to do was pull up along side early on and give it a squirt.
But no, they couldn't do that. They had to fill the boat with water until it covered the river with a sheen of gasoline and motor oil.

And it all could have been prevented by either someone knowing how to react to an engine back-fire, or someone having a $10 fire extinguisher and knowing how to use it.

That whole notion of thinking people should be able to properly maintain an engine and use a flame arrestor so it doesn't catch on fire is just crazy talk

You're a really big tough guy behind a keyboard, aren't you?
I bet your mommy is really impressed. Why don't you yell upstairs and tell her how tough you are on the internet?
