Are you doing anything differently financially ...
this year in view of the economic conditions - ie. improving economy. eg . Save more $$$, pay off debts, invest in stock market (US?), buy hard assets like Porsche 993's, or a brace of Boxsters. I do value your opinions

Retirement looms large on the horizon for me. I'm still hopeful that it'll be voluntary. But with that in mind I'm trying to accelerate the payoff on my mortgage.

We are making a serious effort to be debt-free this year. Reviewing all expenditures for 2012 and coming up with a budget that is doable and satisfactory to "both sides of the aisle" (wife and I).

We have only small mortgage and student loans; low interest. We have a lot of cash in 5.25 interest instrument, buying silver, lead, spoons. We are not making any changes this year.

Due to increased tax liability I will not spend anything other than necessities (mortgage, utilities, groceries, etc.) or paying down debt. No vacations, no toys, nothing. That's the only way to not get screwed next year on April 15.

Paid off all debt and mortgage a couple of years ago and have bulk of investments in funds that produced just over 5% last year. Looking at a move to TX and real estate investments with cash coming out of remaining annuity payments from last job. Turned all my Fidelity investments over to Fisher for managing. 2013 will be a good year for stocks.

I'm not sure what's going to happen so I've been adding to the cash pile a little. If/when the market drops 10% I buy more until I run out or the 10% drops stop. I'm looking long term.

Hopefully, I get the promotion at work which will increase the income greatly.
![]() Given that, we plan to watch our spending on everything and cut back wherever possible. We don't live the high life but I know we can spend less with a bit more discipline and accountability.

I intend to purchase some Real Estate in 2013. Low rates. Low prices. Economy is on an upward trajectory.

Looking for cash to pay for the additional tax burdens, no purchases, no speculative investments, just trying to survive the next four years of misery. If we spend, it will be on home improvements and other non-traditional investments.

Took profits before year's end in order to avoid this years higher capital gains tax...so sitting on cash right now, waiting & watching. Told Cindy we should take some of it & buy a new 200 mph GT 500 Mustang. She pointed out that we don't need to go that fast to get to the pool hall. I guess she's right...

Like to think a 993 turbo deal is in pipeline and I can see the horizon. it need s a little work but doable. This will not be an investment but a toy, along with my 930, I am going to give to my kids when they turn 67. They are 5 and 7 now. Save some money. We hope to purchase some property for the long term. Other then that, I'll just be a working stiff and keep on working.

We are bracing for a 4% increase in postal expenses and not expecting to even match 2012 sales in our start plan.

No. Our nest egg looks pretty good. Cathy will quit work before long, but I have enough fun at the pawn shop to maybe run it another 10 years (will be 70 then). Jim

At 54 market volatility scares me a little. I took a chunk out and bought a vacation home. Good price. Put 50% down. Very good loan rate. Primary home nearly paid for.
With property values down and interest rates low, real estate was an easy decision. This was the view from my new place over Christmas. ![]()
