I had it done about 3 weeks ago. I found out about a week before that the urologist I was scheduled had a reputation for being less than gentle. Great. First thing was to swab the area. He picked up some alcohol swabs with some tongs and dove in - he mashed my bits like he was mashing potatoes. Ok, that sucked. Next up the needle - no big deal, surprisingly. Away he goes to work, some discomfort, not a big deal, then I think it was another needle to the 2nd nut - JESUS EFFIN KRIST ON A KRUTCH!!!! Pain like I've never felt in my life. I actually recoiled from it, and apologized, knowing I shouldn't be moving around when there's a needle in my nut! But man, that hurt. That was about it, though.

I was anxious as hell about the procedure the night before - couldn't sleep, stomach was doing somersaults. I took a gravol about 2am and fell asleep in front of the TV.

Recovery has been fine. I bought some tighty-whities, and still put a sock in there for extra support. I took 1 day off to lie on the couch with frozen peas (didn't tell the kids when we ate them the next week :) ). The next day we had a weekend trip to Niagara Falls with the kids, which involved some walking - in hindsight, I probably should've taken another day of rest, but no big deal. Swelling was maybe a bit smaller than 2 golf balls. The bandage came off after maybe 4 or 5 days. The stitches are the dissolvable type, and are still there. "Activity" resumed within a week with no issues, though the first time was very gentle, very slow.

I had mine done about 4 years ago or so and it was very painful and unpleasant (as you quite vividly described) and it hurt like hell for a few weeks. I have a high tolerance for pain, but it hurt and hurt and hurt for quite awhile. I did the frozen peas thing and it wasn't infected, it just hurt!

If your body is still.producing after the surgery......where does it go?

Good friend of mine did mine a few months ago. Errr...I should add that my friend is a qualified urologist.

Pretty much painless...a few tugs here and there, but mostly we just shot the breeze like we always do while he worked. Followed the post-op instructions to the letter (ice, meds, jock strap, etc) and had no issues. Worked from home the following day and more or less business as usual after that.

If it was a painful procedure for you then you picked the wrong doctor. The only thing that causes it to be painful is not following orders and icing the area for a few hours after the procedure. There are a lot of quacks out there who can cut you and get paid for it. Do some research before you choose one.

"No needle, no scalpel." I had this procedure a few years ago. I dreaded it and put it off for most of my adult life out of fear.

It ended up being the MOST PLEASANT AND FUN EXPERIENCE I've ever had in a Dr.'s office. Yes, you read that right.

With no needle, no scalpel, they use a Star Trek-like pneumatic applicator for the local anesthesia. One blast of that was a bit of pain, nothing terrible, and that was it. A few moments of mild discomfort but for the most part, it was painless and the Dr. and nurse were hilarious. My wife was with me for the procedure and we laughed a lot during the whole thing. Afterwards I took ONE tylenol and never took anything else for pain. I had a whole bunch of Wheeler Dealers recorded and spent my weekend on the couch with a bag of frozen peas and did NOTHING. Actually, I look back on that weekend very fondly.

If anyone reading this is concerned by the fear-mongering, YMMV but it was seriously nothing. I've had more pain from having a cavity filled.

The production line continues to manufacture "product", but the supply chain has been severed, so the "product" is safely dissolved back into the body. I have noticed no difference between before and after other than not worrying about accidentally ending up saddled with offspring I hadn't planned for and didn't want.

It is being absorbed into your body. Can be found in your blood and with a flourescent light you can find it in the white of your eyes! :eek: - j/k on the last one.

But reading the Wikipedia article sure doesn't make it sound attractive to me.

Had mine done over 10 years ago. It works as well as ever. Saves me the cost of buying a dozen condoms with the groceries every week and has made sex a lot more spontaneous. Nothing worse than having to dig through the nightstand to find one in the middle of romance and come up short. Don't know and don't care if you can see it in my blood with a flourescent light. Probably could see it in my eyes anyways if I had to skip a couple of days.

Well.....

I had the snip about 4 years ago......and the mental scares still exist!

I didn't want to know about it at all when it happened, so I insist on being knocked out for the procedure. They called me up initially on April 1, look out I thought, they're gunna bodge it in some way ('April Fool'....yeah, haha).

Well I was prepped up on the gurney and next in line, sat in the corridor of the ward waiting to go in, and after about an hour of this they cancelled...can't recall the exact reason. The reschedule for the next week. Anxiety was already high, now it peaks for a week.

Get in there the next week, get prepped, didn't have to wait long, and they've got me in the surgical ward. They tell me then that they're not giving me a general afterall, they are just going to heavily sedate me, okay I say. Its mayhem, people everywhere, my tackle's on display to them all. Someone starts shaving, someone sticks a cannula in my arm, and someone else starts pumping some drug into it....and wait, no some fcuk starts cutting.

I hit the friggin roof! I'm not out yet you wanker....more drugs, more cutting...I'm still not out of it. Horrendous pain! Before I know what’s happening, I've got a 5hitload of padding stuffed around my Wang and someone is hitching me up in a jock strap. They wheel me out to recovery. I eventually pass out.

After I 'recover', they give me a sandwich and a cup of tea. Like that's gunna make things better? They let me go and I waddle out of the hospital, gingerly climb into the passenger seat of my car and get taken home and pampered by my lovely wife.

The next day it's time to assess the damage while prepping for a shower. I manage to get the jockstrap off and my Wang is hidden by clumps of surgical wadding. As I peel them back the pain is intense, I pass out. When I recover, I have another go at getting to the source of the agonising pain. I pass out again. I decide then to just get in the shower and see if it'll all fall off when it's wet. It does. I look down, and pass out again. I wake up again, this time I stay awake. Now I'm pissed! The buggers have given me a black diick but haven made it any bigger!

Over the next couple of days I recover, swelling dissipates, colour comes back (nothing good lasts). I find that on the odd occasion I'll take a step and the stiches will grab on my jocks. Wtf! Crippling pain, mid step....it's the ministry of funny walks all over again!

I put up with this periodic crippling pain with every odd step for a little over a week. The said the stiches will disappear in a week or so, BULL5HITE!

So one night I pour myself a steaming hot bath and get it. With the help of a pair of nail clippers and a pair of tweezers, those friggin stiches are gone!

Been good ever since, tads are duds. Highly recommend a vasectomy .

Day 2 - No pain at all. Dr. had prescribed a narcotic as needed but I only took one tylenol yesterday and none today. I'm more sore from sitting in a chair all day than the procedure. No stitches, just 2 little scabbed over spots. Still going to take it easy today as suggested.

* I think picking the right doctor is key. My whole experience was on the level of getting my teeth cleaned. Not at all like some of the preceding horror stories.

I got it done today!
Took 9 minutes in total. Very small incision, a bit of pain when the Dr. was locating the vas (or whatever) tubes.. Anyway some tugging here and there and voila! No needles, he used local anesthetic in spray.
Now I'm here home with an ice pack. I don't think I need tylenol cause it doesn't hurt much or my nuts are frozen...

The hard part was trying to get a follow up sample out while in the parking lot without drawing a crowd.

There seems to be a vas deferans in neutering experiences being described here.

mine was a hoot: 2 Vallium's 30m apart, a cute nurse, a babbled for a bit staring at the ceiling, "ok you're done"

Drove a Ferrari F599 the next day, no big deal. Had a dull ache to deal with for a few months after "during", but that went way. :)

I think some had their's done at the dentist...

I still get that "dull ache" now and then. I just assumed that I was either using it too much...or not enough.
