it must be luck of the draw. I have no idea when shelves get stocked and now I'm tired of making the trip.
|
i just drove from SC to OKC. i stopped at several walmarts to get ammo. NADDA!
before this connetticut shooting i could by boxes of 555 22 ammo and 50 rounds of 9mm. the 9's were about $12. |
Finally found a shop with some ammo. Quite a few AR-15s. Seemed to have a little of all types of guns and ammo but 22lr. What about these mid-eighties 5.56 tracer rounds? Seem reasonable in the current environment. Any reason I should avoid these?

Going off memory of TTAG.com data, I believe tracer rounds are more corrosive than other types.
But I wouldn't hesitate at all. |
tracers will be less accurate at longer range because they are light in the butt, and get lighter as they fly.. for that reason as well they are more prone to ricochet.

thanks all

SCORED!
250 rounds of 9mm for $60 and 150 rounds of 45 for $66 from walmart! i am in class with a guy that can get on the military base here. he says they have ammo. we will see later this week. |
Remembered this thread...update. Went in a Wallyworld early the other day and glanced in the ammo case...still virtually empty of all common pistol (and most rifle) except for probably at least 30 boxes of .40 that they'd obviously just gotten in. Couple of guys were chatting, and one told me that the local Gander Mtn. had pretty much "everything", but they were ex$tremely proud of their $tocked $helves. My uncle (who's much more in tune with this stuff) tells me that a well known pattern has developed. Stores get a shipment, "someone calls someone", and the whole stock is purchased almost immediately. Somebody is making a bundle in this "ammo bubble" just like four years ago...it'd be nice to be able to "follow the money". I'm just glad I don't need anything :)

I've mostly just been shooting shotguns at the range lately, as it is all I can replenish right now. |
All I'm seeing is 7mm, 308, 30-06 and shotgun shells at Walmart. It's been like that for months.
I'm down to 2k of .22, 400 of .223 and 200 of 9mm. |
the local wal mart has plenty of 30-40 Krag. not much else. hunting season is going to be awkward.
eventually we have to reach saturation. every guy in america will have 10k rounds buried in the back yard. but would have thought we'd reached that point by now. blew through a couple hundred .308 last weekend. and a ton of .22. i have no immediate way of replenishing. and wouldn't buy at these prices anyway. |
I stockpiled about 5k rounds of .223 during the last panic, so I'm good there. I'm getting low on .30-06, probably around 100 rds. left. I may have 500-800 of .45ACP and .40 each. But I really want to go shoot and can't bear to use any of that ammo until it becomes easier to replace. I got another Commander in January I haven't even tried out yet. When I build up my next two AR lowers, I'll need to test them out too.

Scored some SK "magazine" two weeks ago, just under 10c/rnd delivered. This is the Lapua and SK Match stuff that didn't meet strict QA controls (they test 100 rounds out of a 50k round batch). Good stuff - got a 1" 9 shot group at 100 yards with it.

Just bought .223 and PMAGs at my local Cabelas. They had plenty of everything except for .17HMR and .22, which they are still restricting sales of. Generally speaking the shelves were full. I bought their only two PMAGs but they had a variety of other AR magazines. I think the end may be in sight......

Yeah - I've been seeing that too but it's still a buck a round.
|
200 rounds for $98 is $0.49/rd
|
Just bought 3 boxes of 500 rds each of 5.56 for $299 per box. Also bought one box .22 LR since that is all they would sell me. One box of.22 per person per day. No limit on the 5.56. Go figure.
|
Got a box of 22lr (federal 325rds) a few weeks ago for $25.00. First I have seen in around 6mos. Seems to be around a $10 premium over prices a year ago. There was no bum rush for the shelves when it was stocked either so there is something positive.:D

I don't normally sell ammunition at the pawn shop but several people this week asked if I had any .22's. They seemed happy to pay .10/round.
When the affair started in December I joked that I was going to sell them by the gram. Jim |
