One of my favorite dramas: Fearless with Jeff Bridges - it really takes you through all your emotions, very well acted.

Say no more... Anything with Rachel Ward is well worth watching. She even looks good in black and white (Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid.)

A couple of new additions to my list of current favorites.
Drama- Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Excellent chase/ship to ship combat movie. Russell Crowe turns in a pretty good performance. Good weekend movie to watch. Available at Blockbuster. Comedy/Drama- Oz: the Great and Powerful. Michelle Williams...wow... just wow. Pretty good character development and good story. Nice family movie. Available from Blockbuster.

Had a chance to watch an old favorite and compare it to a recent remake.
Drama- Red Dawn (1984). The original. Patrick Swayze (Jed Eckert), C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson and Charlie Sheen (Matt Eckert.) Some of the acting was sketchy but the story line is believable (for the time period) and the performances from Swayze and Ron O'Neal (Col. Ernesto Bella) more than make up for some of the one dimensional characters performances. It has stood the test of time well in my opinion. Available at Blockbuster. Drama- Red Dawn (2012). The remake (almost). This movie shares some of the same plot points of the 1984 movie but takes its own course. First off, I didn't like the new Matt Eckert (Charlie Sheen's part) in this movie. His character in this movie was played a little bit too selfish and whiny (don't know if that was an acting style choice or just writing but that character spoiled some of the movie for me.) Chris Hemsworth (in Swayze's role) was very good and believable. Lots of good plot twists and more action in this movie. I took it for what it was worth and feel it is worth a rent. Available at Blockbuster.

Airplane Movies
Rather than start a new thread, I found this old one.
I have spent a of of time in airplanes recently and really like Delta's approach to free inflight entertainment: Delta Studio. Now, recommending movies that you watched while captive in an aluminum missile starving for entertainment is can be a bit tilted, but what the heck. The first movie is, "All You Need is Love", a romantic comedy made in Taiwan. It is predictable but really well made: ![]() The second is a Japanese made movie, 'Sweet Bean'. I loved everything about it.

I turned it off, and it turned itself back on again. It did this several times. Ended up ignoring it. Nice idea and airline but poor implementation. I'd rather have lower priced tickets. |

Temple Grandin with Claire Danes.
This was recommended by our school counselor. It's a pretty good look at what a person with autism has to deal with. I won't spoil the end but it is a good one.

William Goldman wrote the novel and the screenplay, which is why they are both great.
He is, and remains, the best writer of my time. Read his resume: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Goldman
